"So, you can probably guess I gave up on this comic. Rather than leave people guessing, I’ll just tell you that I’m not going to finish it. If you’d like to know what I had planned for this, and why I can’t finish, read below
The comic was to explore an AU where Judy didn’t make the realization about the nighthowlers. In particular, what if those kids ran down the road and didn’t get Stu to mention the flowers?
On Page 5, we saw time passing and conditions in the city deteriorating fast via the newspapers. Several weeks to a couple months have passed.
Page 6: Judy’s mom would try to get her to get out and socialize. Judy would drag herself to a dance and meet someone her parents would try to set her up with.
Page 7: We’d see a significant time jump with a table full of photos of Judy’s life. Her wedding, her children’s birthday, and other events. On top of all those is another newspaper with the headline: “Mayor approves shock therapy for savage preds”. Clearly the city fallen apart with out her.
Page 8: Judy is tending to the farm. She’s older and more weary. She’s starting to look like her mother. One of her daughters comes by and Judy reminds her to say away from those flowers she’s planted. The girl responds by saying that “Mr Gideon calls those night howlers.” It ends with Judy softly asking herself why that sounds so familiar.
And that’s it. Pretty bleak right? The city falls apart, and Judy lives mediocre ever after. By the time I finished page 5, I realized this was awful. Sad stories can work, but there needs to be some kind of emotional payoff. Something to reward the audience for sitting through such a sad tale: a bitter sweet ending, or a hopeful message. I couldn’t come up with anything, so instead the story was set to just leave you dreary.
Thanks for reading, and I apologize to anyone who might have been looking forward to this comic."
The mind blowing thing is that this au is canonically possible if those kids don't try to pass over the 'Midnicampum Holicithias' (wiki...) like the toss of a coin...
