Although "Pochi" is one of the most popular Japanese names for a dog -- as well as being the Japanese SFX for a splashing/dripping sound -- it doesn't necessarily mean that the English version of the dog's name is "Splash".

I think "Poochy" would be a much better substitute. Not only is it a typical English name for a dog, it also sounds like the original pet name used in this story.
