Feels like the first half of this should have text as well. Is there a version with that somewhere? Searched on Amazonlove.org, couldn't find it.

He was initially using a type of visual story-telling. If you follow, he basically used a emoji-like expressions and made the character's faces very expressive. It was only towards the latter pages that he began to write text for it and eventually using text-bubbles. So, for the first 2/3's you kinda have to follow the story visually.
