Actually, I think that it is more like a typical trope used in these kind of story lines in general. Like the lone wolf hero (get it? Cause he is a wolf anthro, therefore a lone wolf. Genius writing right there) who has to do everything by himself and feels himself being weighted by his neglectful father, conflicted by the harsh heavy weight of reality or something...
