Whether works like these should be allowed under freedom of speech and all that is one thing. But they sure shouldn't be shielded from criticism. And there are plenty of legit reasons these kind of suck. One of the only ways to make a celebrity fanfic cringier is to have the author imaginary-owning them.

Not to mention we could brush up on how we criticize. Some of these may have been drawn because they're legitimate fetishes. Badly. But most tend to be by and for edgelords thinking that everybody who hates them can't handle their badass psycho tastes. Telling them they're disturbing or need help only feeds that middle school ego and encourages it.

Like how there's both good and bad gory horror, we know guro can be done better. It's not as easy to spell out, but we need better ways to explain how hiding behind cheap shock value like this works about as well as being an unironic My Immortal fan.
