...Because Nintendo won the console wars, so pretty much everyone of a certain generation played, or is at least aware, of Nintendo. So, it's not that a disproportionate number are into it, it's that EVERYONE is into Nintendo, so those who are into other things...are also into Nintendo.

Sonic? Sonic it's because the Sonic fandom has steadily gotten more and more insular.
