This brings back so much memories! Will always remember that OVA or something I watched on bootleg VHS at the house of some dude from the local college's anime club...imagine that, a local anime club...
@valerria_f I'm glad you enjoyed the old movie, but I consider it a work independent of the series since it poorly adapted the plot and tone of the source material and the general art style and character designs were quite different. The author (Mamoru Nagano) had zero involvement in its creation.
Did Nagano completely remake the setting and mecha designs??
I recognize some of the characters like John Weinzel, Palsuet and the Ballanche Fatimas, but there are lots and lots of new ones, and Dai Gu Fillmore is a little boy again (!?)
Did Tomino or Bandai slap a Cease & Desist on him because the Junchoon vs KOG II story arc was loosely based on Heavy Metal L-Gaim?
@kurzwaltz messer As I said, these are based directly on the newer chapters of the manga. Some of these characters are from flashbacks of when they were younger. Maybe read the manga before asking dumb questions?
As for the design changes, you are literally 6 years late. Nagano changed it because he felt like he wanted it changed, and has said so in interviews. To think someone as powerless as Tomino would have any control over Nagano's work is stupid and laughable. And if Bandai had problems with it, they would have attacked Nagano during the inception of FSS in the 80s. The L-Gaim connection is meager at best and played up by morons who spend more time reading the timeline than the actual manga out of their own laziness.
@Ingryo And you somehow think you know better than him, when you have no knowledge of how many times FSS and its designs and settings have been retconned in the past prior to Gothicmade?
I scanned and uploaded this book for people who enjoy Nagano's work. If any of you are here to trash-talk him and his art, please leave. Especially if you're someone who has little exposure to his work outside of garbage memes made up on forums and chat groups you frequent.
I love this series, but I wish there was more in English, i could only find book 1-10 and vol27 of book11
I think I read somewhere that the author didn't want scanlators working on the series but for some reason the official company stopped translating at book 10?
Can someone with more info give us the news on whats going on with Five Star Stories?
@jimmy118 Where do you people keep bumping into these silly rumors? The English version stopped at volume 10 because Nagano left the publishing company (Toyspress) in 2004 and took the rights with him. Outside of an aborted attempt to translate a fraction of volume 11 that went nowhere, the series has no fan scanlations.
The series is up to volume 15 now in Japan and still running.
"The L-Gaim connection is meager at best and played up by morons who spend more time reading the timeline than the actual manga out of their own laziness."
Well I can't say there's connection between FSS and L-Gaim. As what I can say, FSS is what Nagano want L-Gaim to be, and there's some element from L-Gaim which yo can find as easter egg or reference like: -Ladies Sopp are Posseidal spelled backward, his emperror appearance are shoutout from it. The difference is, Sopp double, Upandora are male, not female like Mian. This task already performed by Aisha before AKD conquer Joker Galaxy. -Engage SR series are basically long lost Yaman specialized Heavy Metal frame with Junchoon ODK's role as L-Gaim. Berlin, Colus mainline MH are Gayrahm for L-Gaim. -2 Auge unit, with KOG's Auge as Nei's Auge and MM Auge as the original Auge. -LED Mirage are basically Blood Temple. -Some of MH have same name, design and princip as it's HM counterparts, like Vatshu (Batsh), Ashura Temple, A-Taul (A-Toll), Groon Eldrain (G-roon). -Jagd Mirage are unused Emper Temple. -Gust Temple design in L-Gaim concept will be Terror Mirage, when an MH from Buchtma, Gust Temple have it's own design. -Fatima and it's role as MH's "brain" are unused idea about android with same name and role, Fatima which will be L-Gaim's "brain." -Wolke Schatze are MH counterpart of L-Gaim MKII with only transformable MH, created on AKD, designed as Mirage-line, and use buster launcher as main weapon. It's like L-Gaim MKII that created formerly as Poseidal army's HM, and when captured by Daba & co., its head are replaced by one of Blood Temple's head. The difference is Wolke Schatze never captured by rebel and always assigned as AKD's MH. -Colus VI and his future wife, Dysina Meisner are FSS's Daba and Amu. When Colus VI are have same background with Daba, Dysina are one of Colus branch royal lineage, not like Amu who just and ex-bandit-then joined with Daba and Kyao at the start of series. -Rogner are Gable with blonde/light brown hair, more serious and better position. -And then the famous Colus VI rebel arc, which Nagano only draw one chapter about it are retelling of main event from L-Gaim.
FSS, for me are expanded content of L-Gaim, with every Nagano's vision finally he can use every aspect of it. And this statement is from someone who read FSS comic from the start.
Thanks for the upload. Looks like I'll have to order this one and add it to my collection to keep it complete. Haven't been keeping up with Nagano Mamoru as of late... but he's always a classic.
