Why is this a rewrite? Well, although I didn't have any trouble translating the other stories in this series, this one was difficult. I'm not exactly sure why, but I suspect the writer was making a joke. Although the guy complains about not being able to understand the girl, he seems to have a really thick accent, while her halting Japanese is actually fairly easy to understand. Add to that the handwritten note which was hard to decipher, and you have a "rewrite". Mind you, I haven't intentionally changed anything or anglicized anything (which are what I usually think of as the hallmarks of a rewrite). I haven't tried to make them brother and sister, or flip the pages, or changed their names to Bob and Shirly, or anything like that. I may have gotten plenty wrong, but she's still a masseuse who came for an appointment which his mom forgot about. But enough of this ended up being a guess-timate that I felt like it didn't really fit as a translation anymore. I realize alot of people don't like rewrites, but I'll take a well written, grammatically correct guess-timate (guess-tilation?) over an accurate but terrible literal engrish translation anyday. In any case, i'm always interested in correcting any mistakes I make. So if anyone wants to take a shot at translating this, feel free to PM me the script. I'll be happy to take a look.

If what you say is true, I think that it would be better to instead of calling it a rewrite denote that its semi rewrite or something.
My big issue with rewrites is force feeding a story that's not even close into it, or just rewriting major chunks, if this is still translated as best as you can to make the text flow, I am hesitant to call it a rewrite at all.

I'm with you, bud. But it's really not worth fighting about.

IMO, all "good faith translations" are translations, regardless of whether they are good or bad, literal or figurative. However, there's a strong community here that downgrades stories that aren't 100% literal translations and marks them as Rewrites. Even if you only add a few words or swap text into a different balloon on a page, they may mark it as a rewrite. Meanwhile translations with poor grammar / engrish are proudly touted as "good" translations. This degrades the usefulness of both tags.

So we get a weird situation where, if you just look for translations, you're more likely to get a literal translation with poor grammar than something that is enjoyable in English. (Unless it's done by a big circle, they seem to be able to get away with whatever they want.) And then looking for the Rewrite tag gets you a mix of things that are good faith and bad faith. At the end of the day, I stopped paying attention. I want a good story that follows the art well, so those tags have become completely useless to me.
