This was good but the ending. If Marisa succeeded in comprehending she was wrong, was there any need in taking her memories away?

Ah it's my favourite Touhou Doujin of all time.

A lot of people seem to gloss past the fact that Reimu essentially killed and replaced Marisa just to have their happy ending. Causes strong options to form in people. My strong beliefs in freedom to choose to die and my struggles with suicidal thoughts just make me love this doujin.

Ah, someone finally made the translations on Danbooru into an actual typeset here. Thank you for your good work!

The saddest part of the story is in Marisa knowing that she's pushing away everyone, and can only express her apologies and regrets when she's about to be "killed", when it's too late.

My absolute favorite Doujin finally got an official translation

There's a massive difference between actually wanting to die and having your brain actively trying to kill you.
Depression is a very weird disease. The overwhelming feeling of worthlessness makes you push everyone away from you, and when all your friends eventually leave, it just kind of confirms your warped self image.
As someone diagnosed with the big sad, the trick I developed to handle the urge to do something stupid was coming up with easy short term plans. It might sound stupid but it kept me going for a few years now.

If you can afford it yourself or if your parents aren't uneducated apes, seek medical help. It worked while I was able to pay.

Don't die you faggot.

I'm with page 2's Patchy on this one. I honestly don't see this character as being Marisa. There's a fair number of doujinshi where Marisa is depressed about and/or resigned to never matching up to Reimu, but even within that framework, this is too much of a stretch.

But even allowing for the premise, the ending doesn't make any sense. Marisa wasn't feeling suicidal because of unpleasant memories or PTSD. Supposedly, the strain of changing from a human to a Magician (capital M) was causing her deteriorating mental state. Just erasing her memories isn't going to do anything to fix the problems in her body that the transformation was causing. She's just going to suffer through more psychosis later on, maybe even the next day, because it didn't deal with the root problem that was causing her condition. But deus ex machina, it worked because reasons.

I deal with issues of my own, and I can tell you that finding a solution for the wrong problem isn't going to help anyone and can possibly make things worse. Unless Reimu was altering Marisa's memories every time Marisa underwent a psychotic episode, her solution wouldn't work. If anything, it would just be continually robbing Marisa of whatever coping mechanisms she developed between memory wipes. That's definitely not healthy. And they're going to be repeating that for the multiple years it will supposedly take for Marisa to become a Magician? No way.

I get what the piece is trying to do, showing how trapped and powerless Marisa feels and how far people are willing to go to help the people they love, but it just doesn't add up to a complete product. But all that aside, thank you for bringing us this work and for all the effort you put into it. I always appreciate when people bring us these stories.

@onikamikun : Memories aren't just a photography of the past. Our past experiences shapes what we are. Yukari said that she can alter her memories by making her feel like she conquered suicide on her own..... So she just shaped another human who isn't Marisa.

Marisa could'nt be a Magicuan because of her inferiority complex. Something which is a very big part of her, the fuel of her life until now so it was basically impossible for her to get past that without cheating...

Since it's not Marisa she don't gave the same barrier preventing her to evolve so Reimu won't need erasing her memoeies so much

That's my interpretation.

@gtashnik - There's a big difference between admitting her treatment of the people wanting to help her is wrong and changing her mind about the feelings that caused her to treat them that way
