@splashoflife, If you readed a few of the old baseball or other sports-related mangas, it wouldn't be much of surprise anymore - it might be even harder to find the story, where one of the male/female childhood friends/siblings didn't died years ago or somewhere in the prologue/middle. Mainly those are the talented brothers of MC who were seen by him as the target to surpass and look up to, the current main heroine might've liked them; if they were females, it's mainly the sister of the current heroine who MC liked, while the current heroine liked the MC - basically a broken love triangle and a festival of mental traumas for every participant. Reading those stories is kinda hard, yeah.
