Shame he stopped drawing guro, not many (or any) good full color Western guro artists around. It's always bad quality often with one particular theme (hundreds of pictures only of girls getting shot in the boob or cooked or asphyxiated, no variety at all).

@skullxtreme: He primarily did it because he had no problem doing it and kept getting commissioned to make guro work. He made good money doing it, but that well is sorta dried up and now he's working on Vanilla for his own enjoyment.

@Ashtray Heart: Dave has never once said he was too good for porn. FFS he was still doing it even while Chugworth was a thing, just not of Chugworth itself. Chugworth was made because he and another friend of ours (Jay Esthar) wanted to do a webcomic, and that went on surprisingly longer than they expected initially. Let me say your talents are wasted on guro. Anyone can draw people getting minced, shot, pummelled and beaten to pulp. It takes no imagination and requires little to draw the reader into it. This, however, is much better. humour is much more entertaining and challenging to the reader (if written correctly. a good twist ending that makes the reader think a bit before he gets the joke makes the joke better.)

New to this guy's stuff. The artwork's quite nice, and maybe it had me expecting too much, but… I don't think a comic's lack of substance has ever been so plainly laid out for me as with a set of three thin plot-veneer "chapters" alongside over double the image count in same-y character concept work and one-off pages.

I mean, the guy has chops, and more power to him for (I assume) wanting full creative control over a thing like this, but I can't help but feel like he'd put out something better working with a separate writer. Right now the setting feels kind of divorced from the characters for the most part, and in some ways the characters feel divorced from the sex—like while that's going on, they're just a set of pretty, uncompelling faces slapped on some bodies that are fucking now. The look of it really roped me in, and it's a shame how hard I'm coming away let down.
