Like dustball said, its the artbook from a videogame. Amplitude Studios makes a series of games all set at various points in their Endless universe, and this is the first one they did. They all have pretty decent designs, and tap talented work for their splash screens and units and stuff. I believe endless space was their first game

Endless Space was their first, and easily worst one. Not to say it's a bad game, far from it, but Endless Legend and Endless Space 2 improved leaps and bounds, so much so that it is unfair to look back on the first one xD
