A psychology of your average school thug in action. The newcomer is loud, seems tough, looks grim, and is unafraid. More to that - he intervened, while common sense tells your average being to keep off to avoid troubles - which means, he is the trouble. Caution (and running away) is a better part of valor, therefore.
