I considered shortening the title to City of Prostitutes or Prostitute Town, but in the end went with the original long title.

As a note, I thought page 50 might be a duplicate here, but pages 49 and 50 have different facial expressions, despite 50 and 51 having the same dialog. So I ended up tweaking the dialog on page 51 to make it all work. It's a good reminder that, while amazingly talented, Sensei's are still fallible.

As translators and typesetters, we'll naturally come across situations like this where there is no good answer. In the end you just have to go with the one that seems less terrible. For instance, sometimes Sensei's will censor words in a work for Japanese Legal reasons (like a character name or age). But if those laws don't apply to your country, do you need to carry it through? Another one is the case where an artist has clearly drawn in black and white, but (due to poor print and / or poor scan quality) it comes out all dark grey (instead of black) and light grey (instead of white). Are you carrying through the artists intentions by leaving it all grey, or are you restoring the work by playing with the levels? In the end, we can't know the artists intentions, so have to make something that's fappable for us as translators.

I understand leveling a bad scan, but you changed the contrast on a digital work that was released as intended. I'd say that's neither "restoring the work" nor "carrying through the artists intentions." If you're going to do that, keep the modified version on your own hdd and post the one without fucky contrast. It's not that hard.

I can see your point in poor scan quality and how it could be similar to the situation, but it doesn't apply to this situation—you used a copy of the source so you got what the artist intended others to see.
You stated your reasons for not knowing the artists intentions, but changing the colors on their works seems more like your ignoring their intentions instead.
Let's not sugarcoat this: you are putting your own preferences over the original artist's vision. If not, why specifically change the contrast to that level?
You could have changed it to further desaturate it and claim the same thing, and everyone would react the same way.
Also there's nuance in translations because we lack context and there are cultural differences, so you can argue for some questionable changes. But does that really apply to vision and color?
