Shamelessly copied comment from klermun:

Thanks for translating this. Unfortunately you fell for the newbie trap and used the 1280x resolution resample pages for editing instead of the original raw which is around ~2443 x 3505. For gallery viewing, e-hentai downsamples all images to 1280x resolution so if you downloaded the pages without using the original source link, you got the reduced version instead.

Another possibility is that you downloaded the raw from one of the aggregator sites such as NH. These sites only copy galleries from e-hentai at resample quality and thus don't have the original resolution versions available. You shouldn't use these sites as a source for your raws.

Always check that you're using the original raw before you start editing. If you ever see the resolution being 1280x something, then most of the time that means something is wrong and you got the wrong version.

Here's some ways you can download the original full resolution version of any gallery on e-hentai:
1) Torrent download if a torrent is available. Avoid any torrents labeled 1280x though.
2) Click on Archive download and then Download Original Archive.
3) If you prefer to download one page at a time, make sure you download using the Download Original Source link located below each opened image in the gallery.

[To the "editor" of this work, who isn't credited.] Somebody paid you for this garbage? You do realize that every single speech bubble still has leftover text in them? EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

If I were the commissioner, I'd demand my money back. As an editor for the LWB scanlation group, there's absolutely nothing here I see in this project that deserves even a single penny paid out to you guys. You're not using full-size scans, you haven't leveled your scans or set them to greyscale instead of RGB color, you haven't exported your files as 32 or 64-color B/W PNGs, you clearly haven't fully cleaned your text bubbles, your typesetting with one font (Wild Words) constantly spill out of the text bubbles they're in (and when it doesn't, it's awkwardly shaped and crowding the edges of the bubbles), and all your redraws are super-sloppy clone stamps. Why would I pay somebody who clearly doesn't even know the basics of proper editing?

If you're going to demand people pay you for your work, you better be able to deliver a quality product. And again, I don't see anything worth paying for. If you want to see what's worth paying money for, look up works by RedLantern, White Symphony, Team Koinaka, and the Little White Butterflies (LWB).

But there's hope, but only if you take the time to read this website: https://quicksandscans.wordpress.com/resources/.
This one website has everything you need to know about editing, and should be required reading for every single scanlator who wants to post on e-hentai, yourself included.

I hope you improve, but this work was fucking painful to read through, which is what I believe is going through your commissioner's head right now after seeing this.

@yaque No problem, man. The guide provides a great editing foundation and I, myself a skilled editor, learned several new techniques from it as well. Spread the word about this guide.

@-Revan- Thanks for having my back. It's OK to want standards in hentai scanlations, and I'm not letting anybody tell me otherwise.

I was only paid for the translation, and the guy who edited it was my friend. The one who edited/typesetter it was none other than the commissioner himself. He offered to pay me for the translation, and so I translated it. Note that I don't know much about FGO anyway so that's why I only accepted doing it for a bit of cash.

Thanks for the resources and feedback anyway.

And TLG is just the name of my translation group, this is my first foray into doujins though. I mainly do LNs and other text-based works, and while I have translated for manga, but I haven't done any editing myself.

Don't listen to these idiots. They are just jealous and will bitch about every tiny detail. They barely translate anything themselves and what they do is trash.

Yeah, yeah. LWB translated "just" nearly 1700 doujins... and they don't do beginner mistakes such as using the resampled raw, not leveling the scans, not cleaning their bubbles, not keeping the text within the bubble as much as possible, not being sure that the text is readable, not using left/right aligned text... etc... How dare they complain to someone who present a big pill of s*** when they bring good translation & editing!? How dare they!? ...Nah. Seriously...

Edit:
Hmmmm...
Considering that the translator said that he didn't know much about FGO, I feared for the quality of the translation as well... and I guess I was right too.
For example:
んぐっ => Ngu!
Here: "Ohhh shit, you're sucking it all..."
So... is it a rewrite? Might be. Is it a good translation? I would say no. Will continue to check.

Edit2: Doesn't seems to be a full rewrite... however the translation is quite... weird... on several parts...
I'm not even a translator (just an editor who knows some jap) but I can detect that... I didn't check the whole thing, just a few parts there and here... so it would be good if a translator could check a bit more. But as for me, I would say that the commissioner got scammed.

Ah shit, that's probably just miscommunication on our part.

I have it down as "Mhmmm" in my script. He probably didn't realize that the big bubble on the left contained all three of

"Ohhh....Fuck

Ohhhhhhhh shit, you’re sucking it all...

You’re sucking my yellowish, semi-solid cum right out of my urethra!"

I guess it's my fault for not making it clear as well.

Welp. This has been a total disaster

I should also note that I translate from Chinese, and this is my first-ever R18 thing I've translated

Just relax botman. Nobody, I repeat, NOBODY starts out being an excellent translator or scanlator. It takes time, effort and practice. The main objection here seems to be that the work was commissioned rather than done as practice, but to that I would argue that not everyone can afford to reject commissions while they're practicing. If your friend is satisfied with the translation, then it's all okay. Nobody can stop you if you put out commissions for cheap so long as you warn about being new, and you said it was your first work right off the bat.

The more scanlators that are around, the faster more works are translated. If we push away every new TLer then at one point or another the content in the site will dry up. Just work on getting better and everything will turn out all right.

Thank you for your feedback, this was literally my first ever typeset (and first time using photoshop), I paid botman to translate it then did the typesetting myself because I was tired of this doujin not being translated. Again, first typeset, no prior experience, doing this for myself with no money involved. I'm already working on a better version.
>You're not using full-size scans
Sorry, didn't know this was a thing when I grabbed the n torrent, It'll be fixed.
>leveled your scans or set them to greyscale instead of RGB color
Also didn't know that was something I needed to do, I'll fix it. Why is greyscale better than RGB if the colors are the same?
>constantly spill out of the text bubbles they're in
Yeah I thought I needed a bigger font size because at smaller sizes it was illegible, probably due to getting the wrong size raws, which is also my fault
Again thank you for your criticism and feedback, I will try to do better next time but it might take a bit of time for this to get fixed because I need to practice and become somewhat less shit.

8bit greyscale drastically lowers filesize for no loss in quality when compared with full color settings, thanks to math; since the image is monochrome, the computer can disregard all color data, leading to drastically improved export sizes. that's why you use grayscale in place of RGB. when exporting pages with color, however, the standard appears to be full color JPG exports with max quality settings. full color PNGs are needlessly gigantic.

"Why is greyscale better than RGB if the colors are the same?"
Optimisation. Saving b&w pages as png & greyscale is good. Png & RGB not really as png isn't really good at dealing with colors. Due to that, the files will usually be unnecessarily heavier. Moreover, by keeping b&w pages as png, cleaning becomes more troublesome to do as well. I could also add to that, that you're less likely to use colors in order to clean/redraw things... Usually it's not necessary to say this as it's pretty logical to not use colors on b&w pages... but already saw this kind of error in the past...

I have to say, games of telephone (like jp > cn > en) are definitely not recommended. sure you can do it, but you probably shouldn't. for one, you're relying on the accuracy of a jp > ?? (in this case, chinese) translation, which isn't guaranteed, even with the best of translations. For another, some things just do not carry across languages. there's plenty of things I've had to change or be more liberal with in my own translations simply to make things more readable, either injecting or removing nuance that did or didn't entirely exist in the source.

if you are a cn>en translator, I would just suggest maybe sticking with CN source material instead of the aforementioned game of telephone, for the sake of accuracy.

while i think of it, for series' like FGO or Azur Lane or whatever, use the character pages on the respective wikis as a cheat sheet! oftentimes entire character dialogue trees and story interactions are dumped in text form, with audio clips accompanying them. so, you can search terms and even get a crash course on the character's manner of speech too, even if you are unfamiliar with their mannerisms.
