Ah yes, Rito being hated is a product of a variety of factors. Number one is his out dated archtype. The dense, clueless, and to top it off indecisive. This type of MC has fallen out of favor years ago. I honestly don't know why anyone would like this type of MC. I suspect it's to carter to a very specific target audience, young teenage boys who long to have beautiful girls fawn on them but have little idea on what happens after that. Authors probably didn't want to alienate them by showing relationship progress because said young teens might not be able to relate to making progress in a relationship due to their lack of experience. This is just speculation though.

Another factor for Rito being hated is the over abundance of really attractive females throwing themselves at him. He's absolutely spoiled for choice drowning in a sea of girls yet makes no progress with any of them. Not even Momo's harem plan really goes anywhere throughout all of TLR:Darkness lol. To put things in perspective, Saru NTR's 4 girls off of him in this doujin but he literally might not notice at all because there are 10+ more throwing themselves at him everyday. A person with that much luck with girls shouldn't have any excuses keeping them all waiting. If he either made progress with one main girl or went full harem there would be a lot less hate for him.

Rito not choosing either one girl or all of them alienates the fans of every girl but also makes him hard to relate to. He also has no hardships or aspirations that serve as an excuse or good reason. For example, Issie from Highschool DxD had some serious mental trauma that stopped him from actually trying to pursue his harem dreams in the beginning volumes. When he resolved those issues he put his money where his mouth was. Uesugi from Gotobun no Hanayome didn't focus on romance because he was too busy studying to secure a chance at a good job and support his family.

Rito is literally supported by a Galactic Superpower and lives life with a platinum space spoon in his mouth.
