As the evening light dims, a cart pulls its way up to the local bounty house. Pulling it by hand is a jiaqian, or "paid sword," a kind of bounty hunter specializing in the hunting of monsters. Her cart creaks under the infernal weight of four tahao––a kind of demon infamous for preying on travelers of the wilderness. The jiaqian presents her kills to the clerk of the bounty house, who gladly takes the carcasses and informs the hunter she will be paid her reward of four thousand gold coins in the morning. The hunter waves farewell, and the clerk prepares the washing basin behind the shop. She hums to herself as she draws water from the well, lights the fire, and fetches the cleansing herbs from inside. Once the carcasses are thoroughly cleaned, they will fetch a substantial price from the local butcher. Every part of a tahao is an exotic, exquisitely flavorsome delicacy. The clerk's mouth waters at the thought of a tahao cunt steak––so rich and succulent, it is said the aroma is enough to cause one to swoon.
