There was a thread on 4chan about the origin of peoples kawamono-fetish. "Silence of the Lambs" was not part of it, I don't think there is really any positive sexual depiction of the concept in the movie ...
It has to be sufficiently appealing to an early pubescent's brain to form a wrong new connection.
