Unfortunately, the gender of the one being vored is often unimportant to the readers.
I certainly don't give half a fuck about it, while readers usually care quite a bit about the gender of the one voring. Hence I usually tag it according to them instead of the voree, since it's more important to the readers.
It may be an incorrect use of the tag, but it's undeniably a better use of it, and I think most people would agree.
