She feels out of place, because she comes from a society that is depected as if it came completely from out of Japanese Samurai history, down to every last artical of clothing and custom. I'd understand a sci-fi culture with Japanese Samurai elements, such as using splicing the Waring States Era style of Japanese clothing and archetcture with more technological sci-fi-esque elements, such as having the clothing be made of something like vynel or kevlar, or some sort of comfortable non-metalic armor, instead of fabric and giving them some sort of mixed culture and costomes, or even fully Samurai customs with more futuristic clothing... But ALL OF IT, FULLY JAPANISE SAMURAI?... No, it just feels too much like Earth, which DOES NOT fit into a setting that is supposed to take place in another galaxy than our Earth's Milky Way...
