I really love the direction they went with this. I've started to get sick of the tragic TSF endings. Like yeah, his life got stolen, but he gets to fall in love and ends up in the same social stratum he was in before.

The biggest difference between the two is in the original novel version Sofia only gets a kiss before waking up back at their farm house and now being forced to live their new life so that one has a bad end.

Art is great, action is good, story is bad, guy discovers the power to change reality, uses it to steal a nobles life instead of become king, turns the noble into a low born female servant with a new life, learns he doesn't like the fact that not one woman looks at him as "him" even though he stole his current life, decides that the noble he turned into a low born female servant looks at him for him even though all her thoughts are things he forced on her when he stole "his" life. The mental gymnastics is insane. Pretty much zero need for the story elements might as well have left them out.

So I'm guessing this is starting with an author with a generic evil noble, come uppance, because he yelled at people. apparenlty = evil. I mean you got one page to make the guy evil, yelling at a servant for burned toast is....not justifying anything.

so you have one original story than had the noble being evil mighty have fallen, sort of tale, and then you get this rape stockholm syndrome thing. story ends up being a mess, neither are good ends.

you have so many pages you should pick a narrative, and go with it, wizard powers are vastly overused. he's got at the very least shapeshifting abilities for himself and other people. and he goes with some second rate noble and some human girl with nothing.

Profound lack of imagination here. if you are going to incorporate a shapeshifting wizard into the 'story' make it worth it.

You got a frigging shapeshifting wizard here. and we are having human on human sex. with the same two human bodies. now I know you can easily get 'weird' by going crazy with this, but weird is good. you got magic shapeshifting powers, DOMINATE with them.

If the wizard can outright rewrite reality to the point he can make a highborn noble into a peasant girl, he could just as easily have rewritten his own; He had no need to replace anyone.

All the wizard is shown to do is transform bodies and rewrite memories. I don't think he's meant to have powerful reality altering magic, he merely describes it as "rewriting someone's existence" because that is effectively what he's able to do with those 2 tricks.

It's not necessary to actually rewrite the peasant girl's life because the point of a peasant in that setting is that they're nobody. If they can't remember who they were and nobody knows them, that's enough to make them a peasant.

Making yourself a particularly famous noble without taking someone's place would require you to change the memories of every person in the country.

Kind of agree about the story, take out the wizard taking his place and changing the noble into female peasant then you have a story about noble falling in love with the peasant for seeing him for who he is.

Had an amusing thought that the Magician was actually a peasant girl named Sofia who was abused and grew frustrated with life, thus turning to magic. It would explain why the background and image would be so exact.. they are offloading their miserable peasant life to a noble.
