@reaper_day: I think the intended implication is that Haruma's come back after seven years during those last three pages - we never see "Daddy's" face, but Kaho's inner monologue at that moment and the way the final panel mirrors the last panel of the main story makes me think that he reunited with them.

I also don't think "jail", likely he didn't want to be with his stepbrother's widow right after the rest of his family died or just the buzz to die down before coming back, seeing how this is supposedly set in a small mountain community where everyone knows each other and especially how it's been hinted at the necessity of her family needing to keep up appearances. Maybe there was an investigation but since no-one except him is alive that knows there were grenades in the trunk they managed to rule it an accident/"suicide".

Seems like he either went into hiding or went to jail given the set up and wording. If I were to guess he was probably given the Japanese equivalent of a manslaughter charge. They were horrible people but he knowingly gave them that trunk that he knew would kill them. He didn't make them do it but he led them to it.

Even by Fuuga's standards these were absolutely vile villains and their punishment was pretty brutal. No ambiguity there, he straight up set them up to get exploded. We're not shown the aftermath but it was probably pretty fucking gnarly given how close they were to that many grenades.

Most likely Haruma went on to further his studies. He was a shut in before, and from he look he need to go through high school and universities which explain the 7 years.

Thanks for the translation, I've been trying to figure out the ending for 5 years. I thought it was happier but now that I can understand it, it seems Haruma has disappeared and they don't live together as a family.
