Scalpels? Is that a MTL error, or some obscure slang I'm not aware of?

etori said these translations were made with DeepL iirc.
the original dialogue says mesu and mesuiki, those are the terms that were translated like shit.

Why someone does such translation? Cant one read what one wrote?
Such a nonsense!

Somebody -- the original artist -- does "such translation" precisely _because_ they can't read what they wrote. They're a person who doesn't speak English feeding their Japanese script into a machine translator because they want to make an English version available. It's well-intentioned, if misguided.

@d3112: scalpels are medical-use knives. You should criticize what you understand instead of thinking your kiddy dictionary is all there is to english

Both, the artist used, "メス" which is pronounced "mesu" which in traditional Japanese (雌) means "female" (animal) and when used to describe a person it best translates to "bitch". The Japanese however have borrowed "bitch" (ビッチ) from English and use it in a way that more accurately translates to "slut". This has caused the word to adopt a meaning like, "slutty subhuman girl" or, "slutty girly subhuman" the later of which when said to/about a male basically translates as, "sissy". Because of that ambiguity the tag, "メス男子" is used on Pixiv to specify it's a "male bitch".

When the Dutch arrived in Japan however they introduced surgical knives for which their word is, "mes" and because the Japanese are allergic to words that end with a consonant that isn't the letter "n", "mes" turned into "mesu".

This results in MTL occasionally turning, "sissy" into "scalpel".

As a fun fact that ambiguity between which word is the noun and which is the adjective is also why, "雌堕ち" AKA "Mesuochi" brings up feminization and girls getting mind broken. It translates to, "female fall" (as in a "fall" from grace) so it can mean either a corrupted female or feminine corruption.

TL;DR Fuck the Japanese language (not that English is much better, but at least we have spaces)
