Thank you to 6vuA for the translation and typesetting from Midari. Midari accepts typesetting commissions at https://twitter.com/Midari_dayoo

I sure as hell hope nobody paid for that typesetting, cuz it's atrocious. Someone give that poor man these links:

Also, all the "f"s are capitalized? And there's zero punctuation anywhere.

@cutegyaru

Thanks for the resources. If it's okay, do you think I could pick your brain for some more detailed feedback?

With the F thing at least, it just comes with the font. The F's can be kind of distracting, but it's such a nice typeface and it has a completely open license whereas some like astro city and wild words don't, which is why I personally prefer to use it on works that have active digital distribution. In case the artist wants to download and sell the translation themselves (which I have seen before) I'd just like to be on the safe side when it comes to copyright, and I think the awkwardness is outweighed by the benefits. On this one the typesetter just used it because he thought it looked best, but that's just why both him and I use it at all.

With the punctuation, is it just that there's not capitalization at the beginning of every sentence, or are there periods that are missing or? At least up until now I've not put periods between sentences that share the same bubble because the original Japanese didn't. Though the Japanese splits sentences up by lines, I figure that the reader would be able to naturally differentiate between one thought and the next. Is this a bad practice to use?

Besides that, do you have any specific critiques of the typesetting? like, is the size of the text alright, is the word splitting okay?

If you wouldn't mind checking out a work or two that I personally typeset and letting me know if there's anything I could do to improve my own personal style too, I would be very grateful.

Well, the font is a little bit smaller than what I'm used to; otherwise it's pretty good.

@6vuA
You're on a piracy site working on pirated products. Copyright is the least of your concern when it comes to font choices, and those fonts are awful. You mention Wild Words - that's a great one. CCVictorySpeech or Spinner Rack BB are also good "catch-all" fonts. There's really no excuse here. You won't get sued, if that's your worry lmao

In general, I hate lowercase fonts unless it's for handwritten text.

Yes, capitalize. Put periods at the end of your sentences. Put commas. Punctuation in English is NOT optional, even though JP versions rarely do so. If you have split bubbles, punctuation follows the same rules are any other sentence. Example: [I'd love to see you tomorrow, // my friend.] => you'd still put a comma at the end of the first bubble split, and a period at the end of the second one.

Some general advice on typesetting: text size should always match the original. Try to center your text. Make it aesthetically pleasing, but also try not to hyphenate like a madman. I've seen way worse before, but this isn't something someone should be paying for. Ever. The guide is pretty detailed if you need visualization and tips. You can also take a look at what experienced scanlation groups do (or even pro work) to get a better idea.

For the other works you linked: much better already (mostly due to font choice lol). Although, lack of punctuation, size of text (way too big at times), and overall aesthetics can be improved.

As a bonus:

1) Please export black and white images as grayscale PNGs, not RGB jpgs. This is to a) avoid artifacting; b) preserve quality; c) de-bloat.
2) Level your pages (cleaning guide covers that).

Kanno/The glasses man on page 2 seems pretty buff as a kid.
