You didn't do the SFX because you can't actually read them and OCR can't detect most of it.

You yourself admitted to completely machine translating everything in your previous galleries. I see you removed that little piece of information out of your recent galleries, though.

I can read kana; it's like the one easy thing about Japanese. Even if I couldn't, I could have brute-forced it by referencing a chart of characters.
OCR is mainly to speed up the transcription; I could brute force it using what I know plus kanji search functions such as Jisho's. In fact, I frequently have to correct the OCR, including transcribing entire sections/pages that OCR refused to recognize.
My editing skills are just shit.

I do admit that I use tools such as DeepL as a part of my process, that I was pretty reliant on them when I started, and that I do not "know" Japanese in any meaningful sense of the word. But it is hardly copying the output of the mtl and pasting it onto the page. I parse each sentence and, using dictionaries and grammar resources, piece together a translation.

This is inferior to having someone who knows Japanese translate. I know this. Things get missed. Double/alternate meanings go over my head. Mis-parsing sentences change their meanings.

However, this project (nonfutuo) is a way for me to get works translated that I was interested in but no one else was.
It also is helping my onto a path of actually learning Japanese: a very throw-youself-into-the-deep-end approach.

Did I jump the gun in assuming no one else was going to pick this up? Yes. Do I have a reason for not putting my usual credits on this gallery? Not a good one: I simply wanted to be done with this one, so I rushed the final bit.
