Since Pyra and Mythra are what got used in Smash, I assume the name is saturated enough in the west to gather enough support for the new names. Digging up a 4 year old article on gamefaqs, One of the names means fire (pyra) and the other means light.(mythra)

the whole Homura and Hikari thing likely has some shared kanji that add some poetry in the Japan version which of course is lost in the translation. Prehaps using the greek names because they felt it carried the meaning and held the poetry the best for the Western audience?

Loved it! I'm fine with either Pyra and Mythra or Homura and Hikari- I played the game with the JP dub so Homura and Hikari are what I'm used to, but it's not like the name changes were that bad, they did a pretty good job finding fitting names.
