Timetravel in Terminator is a clusterfuck. Realistically John Connor shouldn't be able to defeat Skynet as then he would cease to exist as his father would never have a reason to travel back in time, defeat the Terminators wouldn't be a problem as they wouldn't have that much affect on the future. Not to mention the timetravel rules seem to change with each new movie.
