I wonder, since standard Jedi Teaching is that attachments could lead you to the dark side (so no falling in love), how do they feel about the subjects of masturbation or 'one night stands' just to satisfy sexual desire?

That being said, I suppose if you focus too much on sexual desire you could fall to the dark side as well (Darth Lecherous, anyone? ^_^)

EDIT: at H-Knight: Thanks for the informative 'essay' ^_^

I remember playing the Old Republic MMO, and my Jedi character met a couple of padawans who fell in love, and wanted to hide it from the Council. I chose to help them hide it.... and I got a Dark Side Point?!?!

In other words, they were portraying padawans falling in love as against the Jedi code or something (although the dude, in retrospect, did seem to be showing Anakin levels of potential to fall to the Dark Side 9_9).

1.) RE: The Jedi Code & "attachments" (Chup@Cabra)... Yes, the oversimplified rule of the Jedi Code does say that a Jedi should not have any attachments. In practice and (much wiser) pragmatic interpretation however, it becomes a difference between "Major" (UN-acceptable) versus "Minor" (acceptable) attachments...

- a.) "Major" (UN-acceptable) attachments examples include things such as lovers, children, &/or excessive possessions (wealth, property, luxuries, trophies/rarities collection, etc.), which can disrupt a Jedi's balance. Remember: for the Jedi, the strength of The Force they wield is based on their mental/spiritual Balance and Self-Discipline.

- b.) "Minor" (acceptable) attachments, such as personal field-equipment (more than just the lightsaber) &/or practical-use possessions (a Jedi could own a starship, for example) are fine. Likewise, friends & allies are also fully acceptable and even encouraged. The Jedi are wise / pragmatic enough to know that even with their great power(s) and skills, they cannot exist alone or apart from others ("The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us, it penetrates us, it binds the galaxy together.").

This doctrine does NOT exist because of religious beliefs or monastic restrictions, but rather because the Jedi Order wisely understands that they wield such power and authority (during The Old Republic era, at least), that their decisions can save or condemn many lives, even decide the fate of an entire planet. A crisis situation, which Jedi are often involved in, cannot be dictated by the desire (attachment) of saving a lover &/or loved one, at the cost of dooming countless other lives as a result. Likewise, the willingness to do something DARK for the sake of a lover &/or loved one, can be also lead down the path of Dark Side.

For example: The obsessive desire (over-attachment) to save your secret pregnant Senator wife from your clouded vision of her impending death, which results in massacring your Jedi peers and slaughtering Jedi younglings... ;)

All this being said, Jedi are NOT "strictly" (note "quotations") celibate; a Jedi is not "forbidden by law" into celibacy, as with (full-on) religious orders/traditions. A Jedi can engage with others on a personal &/or physical level; which does include & permit sex. However, the counter-Balance is that they have to be VERY careful in doing so; if a Jedi in question does not have the (mental) Strength, Wisdom, &/or Self-Discipline to remain Balanced, then (rather obviously) it is a generally better rule for that Jedi to avoid such attachments / temptations in the first place. :)
.

2.) In-game Example... An in-game Canon backstory within this h-comic's (game-)setting, Star Wars: the Old Republic (SW:TOR) MMO-RPG, that best reflects this...

A young Jedi Shadow (Jedi stealth & infiltration specialists) by the name of Satele Shan (voiced by Jennifer Hale), met an equally young Republic Trooper (Commando) by the rank & name of Sergeant Jace Malcom (voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson), both meeting the other at the opening-strike by the Sith Empire for the First Great Galactic War (SW:TOR itself takes place during the Second Great Galactic War, decades later). The pair would work together regularly across various military operations and counter-strikes against the Sith Empire, eventually falling in love with one another. Fortunately for the couple, the chaos of war kept their quiet love-affair (they would not lie about it, or perform any illegal cover-ups, but WERE smart enough be discreet) from being widely noticed, or as actionable concern by Republic Military Command &/or the Jedi Council; their high-number of mission-success rate, and their much needed, morale-boosting, wartime victories trumped any accusations of (morale-destroying) impropriety.

A few years into their romantic relationship (out of roughly 10 years for their overall relationship, since first meeting each other), Satele became pregnant with Jace's child. Satele knew their time of (romantic) freedom was finally up, with a difficult 'Crossroads' decision to be made. Satele was being raised to the rank of Jedi Master; likewise Jace, now a Major, had just founded the elite "troubleshooter" unit known as Havoc Squad (SW:TOR Trooper players will know it very well ;D ). The (10+) years of galaxy-wide war against the Sith Empire were not going well for the Galactic Republic, and Satele knew that the Republic still needed both her and Jace for the war-effort full-time.

So, making the most difficult choice of her life, Satele ended her relationship with Jace (despite an impassioned marriage proposal from Malcom, who was willing to sacrifice his military career and resign his commission), gave up her infant son (Theron Shan) to her first teacher (retired Jedi Master Ngani Zho) to raise, and came clean to the Jedi Council for judgement. The Jedi Council, appreciating her honesty, her sacrifice of attachments, her exemplary service (minus the love affair, of course), and the wartime (& political) need for a combat-experienced and publicly-beloved Jedi war-hero, followed through with their decision to raise Satele to Jedi Master.

Jace would continue his military career, eventually becoming Supreme Commander Jace Malcom, overall head of the SpecForce (Republic Special Forces). Satele Shan would eventually rise to Grand Master of the Jedi Order.

And their son, Theron Shan (voiced by Troy Baker)...? As an adult & major supporting character in SW:TOR's present game-time, Theron would find a different path from his either of his parents', becoming an elite intelligence officer (a super-spy, like 007:James Bond &/or Kingsman) of the Republic SIS (Strategic Intelligence Service).

~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~
3.) [EDITED]: Yeah, I know, I wrote a lot... Star Wars and SW:TOR (which I played for 8-ish years) are a particular passion of mine. ;D
4.) [EDITED]: @kikimaru024... Thanks for the (continued) update(s). :)
5.) [EDITED]: @Chup@Cabra (#2 & #3)... Check below for response(s) for you. :)
7.) [EDITED]: @Penxiel... As the Jedi Code (line #2) teaches, "There is no Ignorance, there is Knowledge." :)
Basically, Jedi didn't like to have any relationships, as they fucked things up sometimes. So instead of having families to deal with problems, they just kidnap more children.
@Chup@Cabra (#2)… [separate post so not to further clutter the top of Comment-list with my long first Comment. :) ]
1. My main was / is a Sith Inquisitor (sorcerer), but I have played through all eight Class Stories; twice over for the different Advanced Class routes, gender (male vs. female) perspectives & romances, and Light vs. Dark choices (for a total of 16 characters)
.
2. RE: Romantically involved Padawan couple... Yes, I remember that side-quest on the ancestral Jedi homeworld of Tython (and lowbie / newbie area). It is also a prime example of how over-attachment can be dangerous for the Jedi. The Player Jedi is also a Padawan at that time (low-levels), asked by a pair of Jedi Masters to investigate if their respective Padawans have been more focused on each other (romantically) rather than upon their Jedi training and studies. The Padawan-couple, afraid to lose each other, offer a bribe to the Player Jedi.
- a. If you choose the [Dark]-route, the Player Jedi accepts a bribe from the Padawan-couple and lies when reporting to the Jedi Masters. The bribe-reward is a minor-tier lightsaber crystal, somewhat better than the crystal you get from your Class Story questing. However...you wind up out-leveling the bribe-crystal in about +10 levels (generally sooner). So unless the Player Jedi is actively building-up their Dark Side aspect early-on (it does take quite a bit of [time + effort] to reach "Dark Jedi" status), the bribe-reward for the Dark choice is pretty lackluster for payoff. ;(
- b. If you choose the [Light]-route, the Player Jedi informs the Padawan-couple that while the Player Jedi feels compelled to report them to their Masters, the Player Jedi also urges the Padawan-couple to come forward on their own accord before that happens. This delay (reporting to Masters) is due to the Player Jedi being mid-progress for their own 'main' Class Tale questing out in the field, and thus will not return to the two Masters for some time yet. The boy becomes angry and is prepared to attack the Player Jedi (not to the point of murder, but beaten into silence). However, the girl halts him, seeing that they have indeed lost their way in their Jedi training (lying to their Masters, trying to bribe the Player Jedi, threatening violence), and promises that they will come clean to their Masters, even if it costs them their romantic relationship.
When you finally turn-in the quest at the Jedi Masters, the pair do indeed state that they will need to separate the Padawan couple until such time that they (presumably) complete their Jedi Training and are deemed strong &/or mature enough to be reunited. As an aftermath lesson, two Masters also try to teach the Player Jedi that while Love is not wrong in-of-itself, the dangers of indulging in one's passions before a Jedi is strong enough with Self-Discipline to maintain their Balance, can only result in a bad end (or worse, the Dark Side).
.
3. The Consular's Tale... For another example of the hazards of Jedi giving in to their passions... if you play through the Jedi Consular's Class Tale, you meet Jedi Master Duras Fain, who is a single father of a grown daughter (Laranna Fain, also a Jedi Knight). In his youthful past, Duras Fain as a freshly ordained Jedi Knight, had a torrid affair with an equally new and youthful Jedi Consular, Yuon Par (the player-Consular's Master in the present-time). The result was Laranna. Yuon Par gave-up both Duras and Laranna (shortly after she was born) to adhere to the Jedi Code, to continue her path as a Jedi Consular, and to follow her career as an Archaeologist {yes, Jedi can have work-jobs and careers; as long as it does not conflict with their Jedi duties & responsibilities}.
Duras Fain, on the other hand, could not bear to leave the infant Laranna with some foster family, even one under the Jedi Order's watch and protection, and so defied the Jedi Council by deciding to keep Laranna and raise her by himself. To spare the Jedi Order any political problems / scandal, Duras took a volunteer posting on Nar Shaddaa (the Hutt-owned casino-planet of the Star Wars universe), where a "Jedi single-father" did not even register as a blip upon a planet of far worse scandals. Duras would serve the Jedi Order's interests on Nar Shaddaa honorably and admirably (combating the rampant crime, protecting the innocent, aiding the downtrodden, and keeping watch upon the Hutt Cartel), earning him much goodwill from the Nar Shaddaa locals and the rank of Jedi Master, despite his "maverick" nature and the "black mark" on his record.
At a crisis point (among many) in the Consular's Tale, Laranna Fain (an adult and Jedi Knight in the Consular's present time), is infected by a Dark Side Plague that has been slowly spreading through the Jedi Order; the Plague infects the brain & mind of anyone Force Sensitive, causing homicidal insanity (mostly Jedi, as the Plague is a Sith-created bio-weapon, as the Consular later discovers). Laranna slaughters many of the crew on a passenger transport starship she is travelling aboard, and threatens to open all the airlocks and vent everyone aboard out into space. The Consular, who bears the cure for the Dark Side Plague, intercepts the passenger transport {As a side-note: the Consular possesses a personal starship, a long-range patrol (space-)naval corvette} to save the remaining crew and trapped passengers, and deal with Laranna.
- a. If the Consular chooses the [Dark]-route and saves the starship by putting down Laranna (killing her), Duras Fain forgives the Consular in the aftermath, understanding that his daughter's life did not equal the many other lives of those aboard the passenger transport. Thus showing that Duras Fain, despite his tragic loss, truly deserves the rank of Jedi Master.
- b. If the Consular chooses the [Light]-route, then the Consular saves everyone aboard the passenger transport, including saving Laranna from herself; as Laranna attempts airlock-suicide upon partly regaining her sanity (from the Consular defeating her in combat) and is horrified by the crew-slaughter she has caused, before the Light Consular can fully cure her of the Plague. Duras Fain's gratitude knows no bounds, and promises to reconnect Yuon Par with their daughter, finding a better Balance in all three of their lives; and thus the trio becoming a Jedi family.
.
4. Moral of the Story... The overall point being: the Jedi Code and its restrictions are guidelines (albeit strict ones) to living their lives, not 'absolute law.' A Jedi is not "forbidden by law" from engaging with others (as said with my first comment above, sex is permissible), but they must also have the Self-Discipline &/or Wisdom to not let such attachments get the better of them. It is a very slippery slope to the Dark Side, otherwise. So again, that part of the Jedi Code exists because it is better in-general to avoid such attachments / temptations in the first place.
.
5. Yes, I wrote a lot again. I cannot help it. ;)
SW:TOR was just so good for its deeply immersive eight Class Tales, and how they form a "Big Picture" of Interconnectivity with each others' Class Tales. Even the various Companions' backstories were very engaging, well-written, and interconnected with most each others.
Which makes me sad that SW:TOR also failed badly in its ability to "keep" players (including myself) with its poor end-game content. :(
@H-Knight: Again, thanks for the 'essay' ^_^
I'm going to skip a large part of it, though, as I have yet to finish my Jedi Consular story yet (and she was my first character; I'm a slow ass player [having only finished the Inquisitor and Imperial Agent all these years later)
I should really look for some non-erotica forums to talk about stuff like this sometime 9_9
Yeah, I'm a big fan of SW:TOR as well (bought it on the first day). As I said, though, I'm slow, and I play it as the 'single player MMO' that is really is. Its also certainly a game for the more 'casual' player than a 'hard core' MMO player (that might be used to World of Warcraft, for example). I guess I also keep getting 'side tracked' by my other major hobby, my own poor attempts at 'art' using Poser/Daz Studio:
https://chupsposercommissionblog.blogspot.com/
Hmmm.... I think I may try my own take on this particular padawan, although I'll make her slightly older (not really into 'lolicon', although does this comic count? [she is young, but not 'loli' right?.....RIGHT?!?!.... Goddammit...... ^_^] )
After this 'talk', though, I think I'll get back to playing my Jedi Consular (yeah, all of my characters are female even though I'm a dude, so what? ^_^)
@Chup@Cabra (#3)…
1. Nothing wrong with playing female 'toons, I certainly have played my share of them across games. A good World of Warcraft example are Draenei females; even over a decade after they were introduced, the Draenei women are still the sexiest female player models in WoW; and this is coming from a Horde-main player. ;>
As for male / female in SW:TOR, if you get to that point, it is actually better to do an even-spread between male & female classes, since that determines your romance options for the "vanilla" SW:TOR Class Tales; and many of the romances are very entertaining (such at the male Sith Warrior & Dark-side Jaesa, or the female Jedi Knight & Doc), or heart-warming (the male Jedi Consular & Nadia Grell, or the male Trooper & Elara Dorne), or both (male Smuggler & Risha Drayen).
Only in (much) later game-expansions does the Player have the option for same-sex romances. My female (Light) Consular took the option for a romance with the deceptively serene & self-disciplined Lana Beniko (a Sith Lord, expert tactician, & spymaster) with the Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion. I found it a very satisfying romantic angle & theme; a Jedi (Consular) & a Sith (Inquisitor) finding a strong (romantic) bond and Balance between them, despite the general Jedi vs. Sith divide / conflict.
.
2. The Jedi Consular's Tale is my personal favorite of the Republic-side Class Tales. Most players dismiss / deride the Consular's Tale in comparison to the other Class Tales, but that is because most players also do not understand its central theme(s). The Consular's Tale, for its probable (game-)Canon as mostly [Light]-oriented, has two subtle but profound story-themes: Humility and Self-Sacrifice. The (Light) Consular gives so much of himself (or herself) in service to the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic, throughout the Class Tale, yet the (Light) Consular never asks for anything in return; though in classic (& generally satisfying) "Full Circle" storytelling style, many of those the (Light) Consular helps/saves/redeems come back to aid the (Light) Consular by their own accord / initiative in the last Chapter of the Class Tale. By the end of the (Light) Consular's Tale, you come to truly embody all the best aspects of what it means to be a Jedi Master. So while it may not be the most glorious &/or action-packed of the other various Class Tales, the (Light) Consular's Tale is definitively the NOBLEST tale of them all. :)
.
3. Yes, I keep writing a lot here. This (SW:TOR) gallery is my favorite because I favor mirialans; three (of 8) of my Republic characters are mirialans, which the other five (of 8) are all different races. ;)
Ok while I know the above posts are interest read but it's still TL:DR for me abit!
I assume with the whole Jedi "no attachment", should Master Terrik padawans fall in combat or illness etc, he would find new padawans to "train" or accept "graditudes" from the local female villagers he just saved!
Heh, imagine if he was in the preclude timeline and one of the survivors from Order 66. He would hate to lived in exile/ isolation like Obiwan and Yoda unless he is fine by going "solo"! XD
