Good old Jay. Love can never between just 2 persons. Wonder what happened in his life to favor writing stories like this.

Pretty sure Trixie always had two lovers and an open relationship, at least from the start. She was never the monogamous sort so it's a little weird to expect that from her here.

Also unrelated sorta but man.. seeing Ty makes me angry now, especially given the context of FON.

So basically she can't come to grips with how she's a hypocrite, she can't cope with the situation that she created for herself, and when she finally decides that she doesn't want this lifestyle anymore, she caves within MINUTES of trying to get away from it.

Mr. Naylor, you're a wonderful artist, but please collaborate with a writer. Watching peoples' psyches falling apart isn't as sexy as you seem to think it is.

I was actually referring to the cop pulling her over, which happens only a few minutes after she attempts to walk away from her old life. At the time of my original comment, we were left on the image of her being let go with a warning. A bit of egg on my face for being presumptuous, perhaps, but is anyone else surprised the scene just ended there? How did that not wrap up with her spontaneously fucking that cop?

@sarahcarr
One's mileage on the word "cringe" may vary, but I'm not here to arouse people with my comments, nor am I presenting characters with deteriorating mental states and trying to pass them off as sexy. Before you accuse someone of writing cringe, a little self-reflection on your own comments wouldn't be amiss.

I'm not sure how she's a hypocrite here? She tried an open, polyam relationship, and it went well until one of her partners decided he wanted something else and the other later revealed himself to be... mm, not the most considerate and got himself dumped.

So after a half-year break, she's taking a little trip and checking up on the first ex-partner, possibly wondering if he's still available since they parted on good terms and there might be some lingering feelings between them. (Alas, there's not - the gent has moved on.) It seems like pretty reasonable behavior for a person mourning the end of a long-term relationship.

worth noting that just about all of Naylor's characters (regardless of where they started or what shenanigans they got up to in their 20s) are settling into pretty traditional relationships.
-with a few twists in some cases.
But they're still pretty trad parental and/or partner relationships.
And if they're not in such a relationship, they're starting to feel the pull towards one.

23 - "I'd taste it on her whenever we kissed, though."
And the very next panel takes us into several pages of fucking. Yes it's nicely drawn, and the minimal dialogue spares us more questionable writing, but why even bother with a story at all if you're just gonna leap into the sex like that? What's the point in setting up the plot point of her wanting to LEAVE her life of throwing herself at anything at moves and not show even the SLIGHTEST apprehension about falling into old patterns?

"I'm gonna quit smoking!"
"Good for you! Want a cigarette to celebrate?"
"Sure, light 'em up."

The reason why she's a hypocrite is that, if you know Trixie, she presents herself as being proud of her polyamorous, open relationships. A sex-positive nudist who pursues the bohemian lifestyle. Still, after discovering that her ex, the one she liked, has moved on and is genuinely happy with a woman who truly loves him and only him, Trixie has a moment of self-reflection and is currently in denial. It wasn't that Bret wasn't considerate, as it's shown he tried to be open-minded and dive into Trixie's preferences. Nonetheless, he couldn't take it anymore and wanted him and Trixie to be so much more, being the only person thinking about the future, wanting to fall in love and start a real family, while Trixie remained in the past. That's the reality of people in polyamorous relationships.

People always protest that polyamorous people are happy with their lifestyle and that it's all about "if you have more room in your heart for love, then it's fine to share it with others," but the truth is that they're miserable. It might be fun for a while, but over the years, it's become apparent that there is no future, and the hedonistic chase doesn't last long. Nothing more than a shallow fad birthed from the possibilities offered by modern medicine, freedom of biological consequences of sex, and the thrill of the bohemian dreams. Eventually, the dream dies, and the crushing weight of your own mortality and loneliness falls onto you like the sword of Damocles.

@BlueRoses23

No, but I've researched and listened to testimonies from people formerly in polyamorous relationships. They all sing the same tune, saying that it was a fun ride for a while. Still, the thrill doesn't last long and eventually ends when people realize that just because you're sharing someone with other people or you with other people, you're still lonely and that all you're chasing is something physical, not emotional nor spiritual, catering to a sex-driven dopamine rush. A phase that eventually falls out of place when it loses its luster, which is why you rarely see polyamorous couples lasting longer than three or four years.

@Demonking45

I mean, monogamous relationships also have a high breakup rate and marriage overall has a 50/50 divorce rate, so I'm not sure why the length of a relationship is part of the rubric. Obviously if you're lonely and/or have unresolved personal problems, or you're trying to save a current relationship, then adding a new relationship (fuck buddy, partner, etc.) isn't going to fix it. That's completely separate from welcoming a second/third/etc. person as an equal partner and sharing your life and love with them. Open and polyam are both non-monogamous, but not the same thing.

Also, to clarify: Ty is the cat, Bret is the dog. Bret is the one who left first, gently, and pursued a more traditional relationship. Ty is the one who was inconsiderate (even knocking up one of Trixie's friends) and got dumped by Trixie herself. Now Trixie had a plan to visit Bret (probably to see if he was still available, now that she's single, lonely, and horny), and finds that he's moved on. So yeah, she's trying to suss out how she actually feels now and what she needs - and having a hard time, because emotions are complicated.

Actually, the statistics regarding monogamous relationships and the breakup rate are iffy given that the people doing studies don't always have the necessary data, primarily applying speculation and biases to the data. So it either ranges from 50/50 or 70/30, give or take who's conducting the research, and where in the world. Length, finances, emotional and spiritual, and physical compatibility are common factors why relationships stay healthy and last longer. Other than that, I don't disagree that if someone has personal, romantic issues, they shouldn't bring in an additional lover into the mix, primarily since they haven't worked out the one they're already in or something like that. I understand the difference between open and polyam relationships and that while seemingly similar, they are two different things, which is why I focused on discussing the fallacy of polyamory and not on open relationships like swingers and menage a trois (the last one acts more like an in-between in the non-monogamous relationship basis).

Anyways, yeah, you didn't specify on who you were talking about regarding Trixie's past lovers, and it was a tad confusing. I know that Ty was the self-centered bohemian cat who sleeps with anyone as long as they are female and have a pulse, but when you mentioned someone who was inconsiderate, I thought you were talking about Bret for a moment.

It occurs to me; Trixie is trying to break away from this lifestyle of fucking everything that moves and is looking for something a bit more stable and monogamous. On her way to try to hook up with Bret, she meets Leo. He comes from a very traditional family, his parents have been happily married for decades, and it's very likely that they've been raising him to have romantic goals similar to their own.

Why isn't this story about Trixie getting together with LEO?

For whatever reason, it's clear that he hasn't had the same luck with the ladies as every other brick of meat in these stories (possibly BECAUSE of the whole monogamous mentality which has been taught to him, which the younger ladies of the Naylorverse find boring for some reason), and he's obviously VERY TAKEN with her. They get to talking, and she learns that this cute boy with limited experience is looking for something one-on-one and long-term. So they become friends (which is all they can be for the moment, since Leo's only 16), she takes some time to focus on turning her life around and leaving her old habits and vices behind, and the story comes to its logical conclusion as Leo finally hits his 18th birthday, and she gives him a very special, one-on-one and long-term present.

@Muffdiver884
DO NOT apologize for demanding higher-quality writing in your erotica. You're absolutely right. Trixie's getting a little older and she decides that she doesn't want this lifestyle anymore, then she finds herself under the roof of an even older gentleman who should be more old-fashioned and traditional. If there's a fuck in their future, it by all means SHOULD take more time than what Trixie's used to, making her withheld satisfaction drive her even crazier.

Sexual TENSION is every bit at important as the sex itself, if not more so.
