On the subject of comic, though - that particular colouration on Elysium's suit makes it look like she's wearing a shoulderless leotard + some kind of blackface.

I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. You think her skin should be a metallic gold color?

Her suit gets ripped open. You can clearly see her skin color is dark all over, not just on her face.
