Hm. If I had to guess Demora is either Helga (she kind of looks like her) or summoned by her, so she is after some souls, but then...shouldn't it be easy to take them while Karl is away? Of course, she could just be using them as bait to have him fall. There is a chance that she is actually benevolent (though unlikely given the last page), but even then, I assume all that sorrow she is drawn too might have a negative effect on her.
