My thinking was that Noa was running late and he was referring to the meeting time being 5 minutes ago, and the Japanese dictionary I was using said 前 meant "previous" or "ago" - even has an example sentence using it in reference to time: 三年前 = 3 years ago. I suppose it's a contextual thing?

I'm really not sure you should be jumping into translation if 前 and its use(s) are causing you trouble. 前 has like 15+ different definitions lol You could ask a more experienced TL/JP speaker to go over your scripts, if possible.

As far as I can find, this work hasn't been uploaded here in JP; I snagged it off another site

I'm not trying to be a professional translator by any means, I just wanted to do this for fun/myself mostly, but figured some folks would enjoy it, even if it's not the best

But so if it's a contextual thing, could my interpretation not possibly be correct? Or is it unnatural-sounding to use it as "ago" in this context? Do you think leaving it at "5 minutes..." and having whether it's "until" or "ago" be ambiguous would've been ideal?
