@Emarmei : forbidden love/relationships always have been. Shakespeare, Molière, Rimbaud, Tolkien... They all have work on that subject. I guess that with the societal shift to way more freedom in partner choice & relationships (End of arranged marriages, societal acceptation of gay, interracial or open relationships... etc) there is way less forbidden love situations now that there were before.
The only remaining being mainly incest and, on a lower magnitude, economic disparity.

The larger issue with incest will always be the risk of multi-generational inbreeding. This is why as a human/civil right issue, it will never be taken seriously. What's to stop your inbred kids from getting together or worse, you grooming your inbred kids. Even in your rosey painted future with gene therapy potentially reducing the risk of defects, you now have an accessibility issue associated with the costs of such a procedure, assuming you could even get it legalized for such a purpose. It may be a fun fantasy, but the sad realty is that most real cases of incest are due to abuses of power, isolation, and poverty. While it may already be largely rural, good luck organizing this grassroot movement.

Comment section is actually idiotic, and as such it could be considered educational because most "education" is also that - clueless people repeating nonsense. Incest is popular on the internet thanks to free expression. People can talk about and choose to see things that excite them, which they couldn't do under real names. It is also universally attractive, one could even say natural. In tribes of 100-150 people in recent human past everyone did it with partners more closely related than most siblings are today, and did it for generations on end. Did it lead to widespread deformity, etc.? No it didn't, because they had selection pressure - malformed offspring just didn't live long. After defective genes are purged from the gene pool they stop appearing altogether, and future generations are perfecting their ecological niche with specific, inherited skills. This is how speciation works and the same way people have always bred animals for a selected purpose.

The issue isn't inbreeding, it's medicine letting survive and indeed insisting on "saving" people with disabilities and maladjustments, and those in turn living long enough to have their own, even more deformed chidren - vast majority from unrelated parents. The conversation about incest is so dumb, because we treat any sort of birth defect as a lifelong burden on the family thanks to a (deeply religious in origin) value system that puts human existence on a pedestal, no matter how painful or pointless it might be. Yes, science might "solve it" if it means society choosing a scientific outlook, by which I mean eugenics. To the contrary, the dominant value of today in my opinion is compassion - especially compassion for the misshapen and weak. Take that for what you will. I should find a better place for this but I hate seeing dumb opinions on this topic go unchallenged.
