Is it offensive to have used DeepL to translate this? If so, I would be fine with gallery being expunged so a professional translator can upload a better version.

Galleries will never get expunged even if someone upload a new translation. The reason being is that "it's a different version". This is why a few works have 3 Eng. translations.
In order to remove a gallery, someone else usually needs to provide the same version but in better quality or if there's another problem with the said gallery.

Additional notes:
- Now that the gallery has been "translated", it'll reduced the chances of it getting a proper translation. Most translator - in particular TL groups - will simply check if one work has already been translated before working on it. They won't check the quality of the translation.
- E-H gives us a Bounty system that ANYONE can use in order to find a proper translator and/or a proper editor/typesetter.

Now that I talked about those two points, do you understand why people don't like MTL? And do note that it's just the tip of the iceberg...
Feel free to use MTL if you want... But... Please... Keep it for yourself. No need to upload it on E-h or anywhere else. EVERYONE can use MTL after all, it's nothing special.
