@zdude - Should be just 1 more chapter to finish it up. Prior work Rarefure was 32 chapters followed by a 4 8-chapter books being published, and this looks to be following that same formula.

And i would not think we will get knifed at the end. I have now read 9 works by Ryoh-Zoh and what they all have in common: Every one has a happy ending for the MC/FMC. He basically tells happy stories every time. Why there are persistent statements that he is a NTR author (and by NTR i am talking about the 'bad ending where the FMC becomes a cheating slut' type of NTR), I really cant fathom. He doesnt write those kind of stories.

That is part of the reason i think the harder core NTR guys get so pissed - they think there will be an NTR bad ending and when it doesnt happen they are mad. But really, they are reading the wrong author if that is what they want.

@Stealthyrogue Still awful that he'd slap us with NTR in chapter 29. Good end or not, this chapter literally confirms that Sensei's only role in this was agreeing to have her work on weekends, with Sensei himself. Everything else was just them trying to get her horny out of some twisted sense of professional pride. With the whole conversation about how releasing this would ruin her, there's no way Sensei literally agreed to all of chapter 29 without so much as a recording to show for it. The only "compromise" involved in the shoot was the fact that Sensei himself would be participating.

@BuyVelomobiles -- Well, I have a bit of a different take regarding the 'twisted sense of pride'. What the CEO and Asst knew: Karin was severely depressed over the break-up, monotone, none of her usual cute bubbly personality, not even tasting her food anymore, not caring much about herself, etc.. They also know that she had built a wall around her emotions in trying to act grown-up, do what she thought was right to help her mom and the debt. They explicitly say she is only happy when she's in love, she is worthless without her sensei, and that there is no time to wait around to see if she ever finds a new love. Immediately after that, the CEO hatches a plan.
So, if you are paying close attention, you know that plan is to get Karin and Sensei back together. They then spend 3 days making her roleplay that teacher relationship, douse her with aphrodisiac to get her horny, all to break through that wall she had built in preparation for sensei's return. On another board, i accurately predicted almost exactly how it went down given what was said and knowing that the author was heading us back to the happy ending. I knew RZ wouldnt take the final step because it was never his intention to make Karin into some kind of slut - his intention was to reunite them for the happy ending.

Now, i will agree that Ch.29 was the most fucked up chapter he has ever written, even knowing that the CEO / Asst were doing it with the best intentions. They really messed with the mind of a depressed teenager all alonge, drugged, etc. A lot of NTR could learn from that - that is what a more realistic mindbreak scenario could actually look like - and that is why it hit hard. Good intentions or not, they did a pretty fucked up thing to a sweet character.

My point though was - hard core NTR guys are pissed because they thought they were going to see Karin finally get banged because they keep hearing he is an NTR author - but he is not going to give them that payoff because instead he is going to give the happy ending. As a side note - i enjoy NTR, vanilla, lots of genres. I am not one of the vanilla people hating on NTR people or vice versa. Really, more of a public service announcement for the NTR guys - as the jedi would say 'This is not the NTR author you are looking for'.

@Stealthyrogue Let me start by saying you're the single most sensible commenter I've seen following this series. All the others could learn from your example here by acknowledging the situation instead of screeching that 29 wasn't NTR, despite literally being the exact thing this manga's been teasing from the start. This is literally the first time I've seen anyone acknowledge that it's fucked up, and also not try to insist NTR is "cheating, but you can't be drugged, and you need to take it in your pussy, and...".

Now for the cameraman. I know it wasn't a purely cold, calculated move to just get her as horny as possible for his pride. But we have to acknowledge that whatever part his earnest desire to see her back with Sensei plays into all of this, his biggest, and most explicit concern has always been to get her to be "The best she can be". He took professional interest in her, which is why he insisted on filming her right then, and not after she graduated. The fact that this involves getting her back together with Sensei strikes me as a sweet, but ultimately practical judgement/plan: If he'd decided that getting her back with Sensei was going to make her "shine" less, I doubt he would have gone with it. The fact that it involved not only manipulating the poor girl, but also bringing about literally all of Sensei's worst fears regarding the work she does, before finally rubbing it all in Sensei's face is, as you put it, "fucked up". From literally having some guy grope her, to having her jerk him off (Did they even tell him about that part, or did they hide it from him too?), to getting her naked, masturbating, spread eagle, etc.- they speed ran almost every single thing one might worry about happening short of penetration (Fingers, mouth, etc.)

And yeah, if you came here thinking it was going to end with her leaving Sensei because of NTR reasons, this is basically a 32-month disappointment. But at the same time, if you thought we'd end the story without any NTR at all, this was a 28-month disappointment.

P.S.: Pretty sure they wouldn't need to "break down her walls" if they'd just gotten Sensei there from the start. She missed him dearly; The walls were up because he wasn't around.

P.S.S.: Just blindfolding her, then revealing that the guy touching her was Sensei this whole time would have gone a long way to fixing this problem, all else staying the same. Day 1 she does the shoot with no blindfold. Day 2, they blindfold her then swap out the guy for Sensei, all the while she's getting horny because his touch feels familiar, along with the scenario. Then day 3, we get the bathroom scene- cameraman talking dirty to her included. But then instead of the door opening for the reveal, the blindfold just falls/gets pulled off, and it was Sensei's dick. He even gets to keep his whole "I don't trust you" speech, since she didn't know it was him the whole time.

@BuyVelomobiles - agreed that for the CEO, I think his greatest motivation was to get a usable product back. And that she would be happier as well just made for a win-win scenario in his mind.

I have also wondered about how much sensei knew about 'the plan'. My guess would be that they may have told him the 'theme' of the shoot, that they were trying to get her to miss sensei and accept that she wanted to be back with sensei - but beyond that i doubt that they told him that they were going to drug her, get her naked, and all of the other sordid things. The state that he found her in seemed to shock him and you see the immediate 'headache' hit him. Also, the look that he gives to the Assistant as he is walking out of the bathroom carrying Karin looked like he was pissed at what he saw when he walked in. He didnt look too pleased. ----- On the other hand, why would Sensei have insisted that they not be filming the shoot if he thought nothing sketchy was going to happen?

I don't think we will know any more about this subject - and are overanalyzing. Because at the end of the day, RZ is writing a long romance drama (not any one simple genre) that has what romance dramas in any medium have - obstacles to the FMC/MC, bad choices, miscommunication, side characters with bad intent, etc.. It makes the story interesting by having the drama, by having cliff-hangers - and this story had a lot of those. And Ch29 was dramatic as hell! All the drama along the way is what makes the happy ending sweeter (as long as your stomach can take it lol).

For me, i think that is why i enjoyed this so much - plot, overarching theme of the painful and sweet sides of romantic/sexual relationships, some humor, cliff hangers, some dialog that was pretty emotional (when Karin was leaving, the talk with Karin's mom, Sensei's outburst in class) - not solely bland vanilla, not solely another weak plot NTR, neither of which can do a good job of carrying a long story. It was a crazy ride - and for me, i appreciated the author's attempts at keep it interesting over a 3 yr period. Maybe too crazy for some vanilla lovers, maybe disappointing to the NTR hardcores - perfect for me.

Also, regarding your PS's - yes, he could have taken that whole scenario in several different ways that would have made as much or even more sense. And also agreed that simply having Karin roleplay the student-teacher for several days in a 'cleaner' shoot, and then have sensei show up would have likely been effective. RZ purposefully went as dramatic as he could go.

@Stealthyrogue Sensei had no hand in deciding whether the shoot was filmed or not. Without further clarification, in the raws it looks like the cameraman unilaterally decided not to film because:

A) Like he said: If it got out, her reputation (i.e. his product's reputation) would be destroyed.
B) The bro literally drugged, manipulated, and lied to her to make porn. There are a TON of problems here- not the least of which being that porn wasn't part of the contract. I can't imagine Sensei would be happy knowing exactly what happened either (I'm just going to assume they didn't tell him).
C) She's a minor, right?. Isn't that why she needs someone managing the contract or whatever? If so, then he'd literally be filming and distributing CP. Which, yeah, would be a bit of a "compliance" issue, like he mentioned.

By all means, he just decided not to film, then informed Sensei that he wouldn't circulate the footage (It doesn't even sound like he told Sensei he didn't film in the first place). Sensei was convinced they were filming the whole time, and was only surprised to find out they didn't have an audience when he finally fucked her.

And look, I'm all for drama in my stories, but I'd like the issues to make some level of sense, and keep with the theming of the story. If you're going to do an NTR bait manga, going to set up a manager as a good guy, going to go for a happy ending, etc., then don't literally contradict the entire story up until that point for a single OOC chapter. The man had to waste a whole extra one just to explain away the massive holes he introduced into his story just so he could say he NTR'd MC for a bit.

My blindfold idea would have kept all the same story beats, and with a bit of misdirection by including more panels of Sensei setting things up at home (As a flashback this time), we could assume all the NTR was happening while he was on his way to see her, only for the big reveal in the next chapter. It would keep the drama, keep the theme of the story consistent, immediately absolve the crew of a LOT of their sins (Save for the drugging), explain Sensei's willingness to go along with this insane plan, keep everyone in character, we get to keep saying FMC only responds to Sensei's touch (even subconsciously, while blindfolded), explain why Cameraman is suddenly accepting more intense scenes where people touch her and vice versa, etc. We could even explain away Karin's willingness to go along with this, since between the drugs, the blindfold, and the "familiar touch" she can immerse herself fully in the "roleplay" and imagine it's Sensei touching her without being able to plainly see she's jerking off the cameraman, or that the guy groping her is some stranger.

To boot, the cameraman's lines about "showing Sensei" would suddenly be an excellent setup for the twist to come (In the original sense of the word "twist", wherein you have all the information you need to draw the conclusion, and the reveal only changes the lens through which you view said information), since instead of saying it to turn her on, he's literally telling her Sensei's there, and looking right at her.

RZ wouldn't even need to explain that he wasn't filming at the time: Karin was blindfolded. Depending how it's done, we literally wouldn't even know whether the camera was out until the reveal shows there wasn't one in the first place. More than being upsetting, the way he did this arc was sloppy.

P.S.: I don't mean do a "cleaner" shoot for days. I mean keep this exact progression (They only have three days, as per for compromise), but blindfold her just before the "massage" scene, so Sensei's the one touching her. Day 1, she does the thing with the other guy, as normal, Day 2 comes the massage day with the blindfold, then day 3, she can be blindfolded, waiting in the bathroom before Sensei and CEO come in to "film".

@BuyVelomobiles -- On page 9, after the asst says 'you didnt actually film it', the CEO says 'I dont want us to get in trouble if it gets accidentally leaked, so i promised teach there would be nothing to leak'. To me, i read that as the CEO saying that him and sensei agreed that he wouldn't be filming (otherwise, how can you assure there would be no leak - we see sex film footage leaked quite a few times IRL).

As for your scenario - i agree that it could have worked well if he had chosen that path without lessening the drama if we didn't know Sensei was there until the unmasking. And agreed that would have aligned better with the theming of the story up to that point. Maybe he just didn't think that one up?

For sure, he took a route that was fucked up morally and legally. I personally don't have a huge issue with that - although many do and i can certainly understand that. For me, it is, after all, a Japanese porn comic - which in many cases is synonymous with fucked up. Even the fact that an adult teacher is having an affair with a student is messed up IRL. I take those in stride when i decide to partake in this medium. Gimme some drama, gimme the happy ending for these two, and i enjoyed it.

She's a minor right? - i have wondered about that as well. As a minor, you wouldn't even shoot an image video that included things like the boob massage, implied blowjob licking the ice cream, extreme costume like she was wearing in the bathroom, etc... An image video for a minor would be much more tame - so i found that to be a plot hole as well. It is implied that she is no more than a 2nd year student - they refer to Mami earlier in the story as 'that senior' which seems to mean that they are not seniors. Thus, she should be 16 or 17. I guess they could have had to move around before for her mom's work causing her to miss/repeat a year and thus be older. Or, they just ignore that fact because 'Japanese porn comic'.

As an interesting aside: In Japan, you are an adult at 18, but until last year 18 year-olds could not sign legal contracts without a guardian also signing. That includes work contracts, loans, credit cards, appt leases, and so on. Like the drinking age, you had to be 20 to enter a legal contract without a guardian cosigning. That is also one of the reasons that the majority of AV stars are at least 20 years old. They changed that law last year to allow 18 yo to enter into legal contracts. Although, when this story started, it was still 20.

@Stealthyrogue- I don't know why, but I seem to be one of the small minority (I'd say <10%) of translators that don't change dialogue like that. The "I promised there would be nothing to leak" was the "translator" changing the dialogue for no good reason. Unless they're mine (BuyVelomobiles with Orchid of the Moon on Mangadex. Message me if you want!), just assume you can't rely on their exact wording to understand the story.

In the raws, the guy says 何かの間違えで流出とかして問題になるのはごめんだ。ティーチャにも回さないって教えてたし, which translates to "I don't want us to get in trouble if it accidentally leaks, and I also told Teach I wouldn't spread it". There was no talk, or implication, of an agreement or promise, and it sounds like Sensei still wasn't told he didn't film in the first place. The only ambiguous bit is when exactly the guy told Sensei he wouldn't distribute it. But without further clarification about the timing from RZ ( which we know won't come), and judging by Sensei's reaction, this talk about "not spreading it" came AFTER the reveal, to pacify him. Because yeah, you'd figure something bad is up if they're promising not to pass footage around before the fact. But either way, Sensei was TOLD it wouldn't happen: It was entirely a decision by the cameraman.

And thanks to you too! I really needed to have a talk about the actual story itself instead of getting wrapped up in arguments about definitions with tourists.

And I hadn't thought about the boob massage also being a problem! More reason for it to be Sensei! Why did he even push for the scene in the first place without Sensei around?! He already agreed to involve Sensei in this in the first place! There was no need for the scene, much less with a stranger! xD

The word play on Karin Suma is cute and I'm glad it came as a surprise. Don't know how many chapters are left but I feel like we've had good "THE END" moments for happy endings for two chapters in a row now, there has to be something more because I don't see what would be in the last chapter unless it's an orgy

Seeing her reunited with her friends perhaps. Would be nice to see teacher Oototsu being escorted from school. But, yes, other than the 'I love you' which could have easily been inserted as you mentioned, everything else feels like filler. (Although we didnt get the i love you in Rarefure - they just flipped each other off simultaneously). The 'We're Home' really would have been the perfect ending scene.

Also, it appears that the final chapter won't be coming out until the September issue.

Oh, and one of my pet theories - when sensei was holed up in the art room after Karin moved away, could he have been painting a new itaiamai II with karin as the subject? Would be a nice touch if they opened the apartment door, instead of all of those Karin pictures on the wall, we see the painting.
