Google Translate has an option when translating Japanese to English where you can draw a kanji to get around not being able to type it in or copy/paste. If I could draw better with a mouse, I could use that to do a rough translation.

But as it stands, our only option for making a translation happen is commissioning someone who actually knows what they're doing.

Unless you have familiarity with Kanji and stroke orders, that's an exercise in madness. You can't simply try to "draw" a kanji and expect it to know what character you're trying to write unless it's extremely simple and straightforward. Most of them are not.

What you *could* do is use something like Japan Goggles to capture Japanese text from images.
