Just fyi, its customary when scanning to remove the pages from the spine of the book by taking the whole thing apart. You typically buy a second copy for yourself if you care about having one for personal use... or you can staple the pages back together or something.

To elaborate on @TheDjinnFor's suggestion, if it is staple bound, you can carefully bend the original staples open to separate the pages that way and then thread them back through and bend them down to keep all the existing elements in tact. (I do this when scanning my old theatrical pamphlets and game manuals)
If it's a glue-bound book, there are a few ways to reheat the glue binding to separate the pages, and can be reversible if careful. As crazy as it sounds, you can use a hair dryer or even a microwave to achieve this, though you may want to make sure for the latter that your tray is clean and that the book has no foil elements.
