_birdmancrazy_ does speak a good point. There is a lot of un-translated old doujins around that very rarely gets picked by anyone and thus there isnt that much hope of ever getting translated. You will get a lot more of goodwill from people translating those than the new ones as the well is pretty much poisoned at this point due some other people doing MTL.

@lw123789 I can tell you: because mtl tools are just tools and there's a fundamental difference between using them as tools to help you and throwing pages at them without doing anything else.

You can definitely get some good work out of mtl tools if you use multiple ones, feed them various amount of surrounding text, cross check them and check against the pictures, use a dictionary to check individual words. Then adjust the verb tenses and pronouns and genders and proper names.

That's obviously what the guy here did, there is none of the telltale signs of shitty mtl. Plus the typesetting is good, the font correct, and the redrawing decent.

I understand and share the negative sentiment towards mtl considering the massive amount of utter dogshit destroying recent works we are getting these days, but this one is an exception. It's one of the few instances of mtl tools being correctly used.

For the record, I only have my weeb knowledge of Japanese, but I tried my hand at translating one work, that it seems would never be translated, I did what I described above. I used an OCR tool to get the script, checked that every character had been correctly recognized, used a handwritten kanji recognize to fix the ones the ocr failed on, then used gtranslate, deepl and others and a dictionary, corrected the result as I said.

I was half way through editing (editing was the real hard thing) when a real translator group released it. My translation was on par, and I dare say on a few bubble, even better, as the real translation of those few bubble definitely missed some info.

Tools are just tools, some rare people can use them well.

This clearly had a lot of work put into it. OP I hope one schizo comment doesn't discourage you. (I mean look at all the schizo comments on the Sasha translation I did).

You guys instantly screeching at the sight of MTL are just as bad as the people uploading pump and dump, shit into chatGPT translations. Do not start screeching until you've actually read the work. MTL can be used well so long as a TON of extra work is put in as hey00 said, which it looks like it was in this case.

@lw123789 you've contributed nothing to this community, so shut the fuck up.

We are a community in desperate need of new translators. People like this who are willing to put in the man hours may one day learn a lot more Japanese and become professionals. Or you could go my way and find a love for CL/RD and focus on that.

I do think it's best to focus your time on old doujins that are less likely to get a translation though, go through the backlogs.
