this is just my lowly opinion, but i think any decent translator would have picked up what 「シエル」 should be written as, and it's definitely not Sieru... usually.
makes me wonder if this is actually MTL.

@Slyder
i didn't say it's definitely MTL, because i have no way to prove it. i'm not proficient enough in japanese to translate after all.
just saying that Sieru is not a name, which brings the question of why her name is written as Sieru, which is possibly because of MTL.
then again, it's also possible that the translator simply don't know the usual name to call her, in which case i'll stand corrected.

@BeeTheImmortal
funny, that's what i was trying to say:
"Sieru" is the way the Japanese wrote "Ciel" in their language. naturally using katakana instead of hiragana. and that's how translators had written that name for years before MTLs started appearing.
but ok, let's say i chose to err on the side of caution and say you're right. now kindly explain to me in which country "Sieru" is used as a person's name?

@ncc1701z "sieru" is just another way to romanize シエル, I think it's too much of a stretch to say it's MTL just because it's romanized in the typical way a japanese person would type on a qwerty keyboard instead of the typical Hepburn westerners became accostomed to seeing.

@ncc1701z Google Translate quite literally translates it as "Ciel" instead of Sieru, so if it were MTL it would be "correct" to you. However, "Sieru" is how the original writer wrote her name in the original JP version, so it is in fact correct here.

@ncc1701z To be fair strange romaji forms in official anime/manga stuff is completely normal like: Artoria→Altria, Alice→Aris, Zoro→Zolo, Mikazuki→Mikaduki. BTW you have to look at the title of the original JP chapter, where the author actually provided her romaji. He wrote as "Sieru".
