What the fuck is an adoptable? Actually, what I really mean is, why do they exist?

they draw a character and then sell it to other people
i dont understand the concept, why even bother creating a character if you are just gonna sell them to others.(i guess its just for money)

The specifics is that for many people who roleplay, getting art of their character idea is generally difficult, somewhat expensive, and often you just borrow preexisting art. Sometimes you might not even have a character concept to begin with, just a vague idea and no specific details for how they look.

In that scenario, people with little imagination but money to spare will buy a specifically designed character and make that the official look of their character. it tends to be expensive, but if you're the kind of person who wants to be able to say 'This is my character!' and not be all that creative, it's a tempting option.

I personally could never do it. Finding quality artists willing to work with ideas for even basic line-work is a lot cheaper, and if you know how to design a character theme and appearance with words, often people will just make art FOR you if they love the concept enough. See: Pretty much all of my characters have had gift art made of them. :P

Not much variety in that portfolio. All look pretty much the same, huge titted, fat assed and oversized.
Out of most of these, you could make 2-3 normal sized persons that would actually be attractive.

While I'm not against adoptable but I'm kinda suprised how this is not controversial to the likes of NFT?

I mean I get the idea of spending even bidding to get an OC image and "claimed" it as your OC to used but like NFT, people can copy and saved the OC?

On top of what @Gentlemen Mage said, it's better to appreciate artists that are willing to draw and make Adoptables and sell those designs for people that are willing to pay for that imagination, as opposed to those who use AI Programs to make it without putting any effort.

Adoptables are cool except when they charge like 600 for em. Witchking00 does his as an auction but with a 650 buy now thing. And for like 5 or so in a row the same person just bought them with the buy now thing
