The thing that offends me the most about MTL is that people just copy and paste the results, without touching up or reworking the script to be natural English. They just hit translate and roll with it.

@Lao Shan Long it wouldn't help, I've seen people on this site admit to using mtl as a base and then editing for grammar and get bullied off the site anyway

you'd think that people would ease up a bit now that the "rough translation" tag exists, but it still gets buried just like the similarly-tagged AI art (that isn't "parody:sword art online", anyway)

the two main justifications I see for the vitriol are that mtl makes non-machine translators less likely to translate, and that it's just a way to avoid paying people for their work

but for the former, we have the rough translation tag, and for the latter, we are on a free back alley porn site

it's not even like mtl is universally agreed to be bad even on this site, anything that isn't language:english tends to have positive ratings
