I am Sonokeeper, writer for Grim Fate Comics! My ancient username actually matches that, but my display name is stuck as Fire32. :P Also, Bobbydando == Eldrik Aethervial, Bobbydando is just his HF account name.

Are you interested in supporting the series? Check out our Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/GrimFateComics to see the full-sized, HD pages, separate novel illustrations, a ton of bonus art (including over 300 B&W images [plus some color]), participate in the bonus comic idea submission / voting, and more!

Also, we can be found on discord at: https://discord.gg/Ctt6ynw
(Much of the discord is patron-only, but there is a public area).

@brakstar:

There will be more tight vore in this comic, although there will be other stuff as well. Issue #1, Plant Food, is going to run for over 120 pages. :D

I'll be making a gallery on g.e for the monthly mini comics as well once the second one is in. Both patreon-decided mini-comics were heavy oviposition, but there was a unanimous vote in favor of my "not three in a row" rule (some are even pushing for a stricter "not two in a row"), so next month's mini comic will not involve ovi. Someone suggested a tight vore concept, maybe it'll win the August vote (It fared pretty well in the July vote)?.

imercenary you obviously don't pay a lot of attention to QnA comic pages at all then, cause the QnA have a lot of the answers you are looking for. the pace of a long comic is meant to be slow and drawn out. Not all comics are going to be 30-40 pages and done.

Well.. although the Q&A comics*** do delve more into the background of some of these characters, I think Plant Food can stand on its own.

The main comic makes it clear that:
> Rika & Safi & Amber & Katarina were on the crashed airship.
> The airship crashed into some kind of horror jungle.
> Rika & Safi want to regroup with Amber and escape the jungle
>> Rika can sense location of something in Amber's bag.
> Katarina has something against the others that were on the airship. Murderously so.
> Juniper was not on the ship. She's been trying to find her lost aunt. Both she and her aunt are botanists.
> The monster plants want to vore/oviposition/etc these women.
> The women do not want to be eaten/stuffed with eggs/etc.
> Some mysterious entities are watching this from afar.

There is good deal more that can be inferred from the first 40+ pages, but the above is outright stated/shown and I think it is enough to follow the comic thus far. We don't the whole background, but we know the immediate desires of the characters and the gist of how everyone relates to everyone else. The only exceptions are Sylvia/Saundra - they've been inferred to also be from the ship but that's not quite explicitly stated (yet). Also, Larkane is right that this is a long comic.

***The Q&A comics are mostly safe for work. I've considered adding all of them to the end of this gallery (so it would be "All current main comic pages" followed by "All current Q&A pages") but I'm not sure if people would find having to find each week's continuation somewhere in the middle of the gallery annoying or not.

"You're obviously in love with your characters cause you named them,"

Yes, because the only time you would name your characters is when you're 'in love' with them, not because they're characters in a comic.

The extra Safi arc feels a little forced in the context of the scene, and I felt the previous fade to black was just ambiguous enough about elapsed time and how she broke.
But hey, I can certainly see why your subscribers voted for her. Her sarcastic tone and sassy internal monologue has easily made her the most attractive character in the story.
You know that's some serious sensation on page 35 when her stalwart stream of thoughts suddenly matches the moans outside.

58-59 now have brought us into "come for the porn, stay for the plot" territory that I can only surmise has to do with the inter-dimensional overlord who made a cameo earlier.
This plant(s?) was stated to have been given its power and presumably consciousness from that guy, but we viewers don't know what that's like yet. Is it a sentient colony a la Planet? An uplifted demon plant with an artificial mind? Maybe some dude from another reality that was gifted the form of rape plants from an ill-considered wish?
It definitely seems aware of being observed in what looks to be the flooded fantasy mirror of the other lab.
"The Diners" doesn't seem to be a real book and is probably just a vore reference, the books on the left just suggest arcana and craziness, the books on the right perhaps some insight into astral projection or possession of plants. The LCD monitor tells us this lab is at least at what we'd consider current day, but the ham radio and swirly-antenna'd TV again highlight eccentricity. Maybe they're the easiest to re-purpose. The power cables appear to actually plug into the magic circle.
Of course, most interesting of all is the blackboard. Memory record+soul bits and Theseus' Paradox suggest reconstituting a person. Whether that means from the plants, or as a means of travel to another world, or to resurrect the dead remains to be seen.
Maybe this unknown viewer wants to go there or steal someone away.

I am enthralled by this story. You could probably run a SFW web comic out of this world and be relatively competitive with anything out there.

Whose who (and what's happening to them as of page 154):

Safi is the fox gal, yes. She's trapped in a pod, but the liquid is pouring out.

Josie is the black-haired elf woman. She's Juniper's Aunt, and recently damaged the pod Safi is in. She's getting shocked in the most recent main comic page.

Juniper is the blond-haired elf woman WITH glasses, and she's currently headed to somewhere or other as part of a Plan(TM).

Saundra is the freckled lady that's trapped in the other pod.

Rika is the woman that's still alive underwater.

Sylvia is the blond-haired elf that had earth magic, and is currently bound in the coconut.

Neriah is the bird woman that's also bound in the coconut.

Mitra has never been shown on screen, but has been referred to as being a third woman bound in the coconut. What she looks like is unknown.

Hrm... on the sameness, I suppose it's because they various ladies involved ended up being in very similar set-ups. This scene ended up being longer than origionally planned, and I think it might have been better if we tweaked the coconut set up so that the three ladies were trapped a bit differently.

As for What's Going On.. well it's actually pretty similar to my last big comment.. anyway:

> Safi & Saundra are seeded and trapped in pods that are floating through the sky on a path leading them deeper into the jungle. Saundra has freckles and her reddish hair is more of a RL coloration. Saundra was with Sylvia back in the caves before they both got caught.

> Rika is in an underground lake, trapped in a Jellmock seaweed plant, and has hair that's a deeper red than any natural RL color.

> Juniper is trying to get the plants to release Josie back on the surface.

> Sylvia, last coconut survivor, is trying to slow down the process of the plant absorbing her for a quick boost of magic.

> Neriah, Katarina, Mitra, and Amber have been digested by various plants and are dead. Their souls, or at least what's left of them, have gone through some sort of salvaging process and will likely be used as materials for something else.

Dragonaira has it - as long as Safi believes the plant can't kill her in the dream it really can't do it. Everything going on in the dream is either the seeds
A) Trying to come up with a plan, which it's indirectly having Safi do by having her subconscious fill in the memories "Amber" would have (Because the seeds are extremely limited mentally - Safi was correct that the entire dreamworld is borrowing from her own imagination).
B) Using the plan to trick Safi into thinking that the situation's changed, and that they CAN kill her after all.

Safi's soul is basically the nutrition the seeds need to fully develop their own consciousness.

----

As for "the whole point"... I mean we had Juniper escape, and things are looking hopeful for Josie. The original Willow Palm not only lost a fight but was literally killed. The remnant w/Sylvia, even if it succeeds in converting her into a new core, won't restore the original plant's consciousness. It's dead, she'd at best be a more direct successor. Stoneslime Creeper has had a ~33% win rate (although it's still alive).
Edit: Stoneslime also failed to catch Josie. So 1/3.
Edit: Oh yeah, Jellmocks also failed to catch Josie (flashback). So they're only batting 2/3.

Once again so far i was fine with all that was happening, but this one really seems gratuitous. It's like this Star wars episode 8 with all the "gatya!" things that had for only goal to "surprise" even if it wasn't really making sense. They toy with her for hours and suddenly in a matter of a few seconds she is melted skin flesh bones all at once ... ok and Safi that is right next to her can't reach her in time and won't try to destroy the damn thing during the process. Is she blind too to not see the urge? Here i'm really feeling this was forced, i don't know the reason why you turned it this way, but it really feels forced to me.

Welp, I spent over an hour writing a response that got eaten by EH. $@#! it, cliff notes version:

1) Eldrik has done male characters before, he's not the writer for this one.
2) No Male Victims: I, the writer, have less than zero interest in seeing men get sex'd up. I have more drive to write sexual stuff when I have at least a little interest in it. In what universe is not being attracted to men homophobic?
3) No Male Antagonists: Did one a long time ago, Pharaoh's Reward. Got a complaint from a female reader that liked to self-insert, regarding how they really like the way our series always had sensual/pleasurable doom without it being about some guy's gratification. GFC antagonists generally didn't/don't get any sexual gratification from what they're doing anyway, so why not cater to that niche? This also prompted me to focus a bit more on having all the dooms be intensely pleasurable for the victim, which has sort of become GFC's style so we're sticking with it. "Why not have male antagonists that simply do not jerk off to the lady's doom or whatever?" - eh, probably because A) I really like the "turnabout is fair play!" trope and like to leave the door open for an antagonist to become a future victim and B) Only ever having men as victorious antagonists would send a different sort of message, I think? Both of which brings us back to point (2).

... I guess the bonus art series "The Assessment" had male antagonists, but the goblins running that were female or at least a mixed group in the script it just got missed art-wise and wasn't worth changing IMO.

4) COLOR: We didn't have the funding to do so early on. We occasionally go back to color old pages, last time we did that was between vol 1 and 2. If we focused entirely on coloring it we could pull it off in... 5-7 months? Maybe 8? No one wants us to stop posting new stuff for that long.

I can only repeat that the main issue is this narrative *used* to be simple to follow. Adventurers in peril getting captured/raped/escaping/falling to their doom. Now it's metaphysical this and that with weird tests and motivations that aren't properly connected in scenes that take far, far too long.
This might not be a problem in a continuous story but in a once a week page format it absolutely is.

I'm not sure it's an issue with the writer either as Fairies vs. Tentacles has a similar problem with meandering to the point that people forget what's going on. Though it's concepts are a little less esoteric.

So, writer here! I do think narratively this story is absolutely suffering from an almost meta-story telling that is happening as I do see Sono(Fire32) post a lot on discord explaining things and divulging their ideas/details about stuff in the story. The problem is, this information isn't really being conveyed quickly, concisely or in some cases at all within the actual text. I will also say complexity is good but there seems to be a little too much as to what is going on within this universe. A lot of rules that don't seem to make much sense, in part because they aren't explained properly. But as a writer I know dedicating too much time to exposition will be terrible in a comic that is absolutely catering towards sexual interest not big brained ideas. So I think narrowing down what is going on into a much simpler form/smaller scale and just focusing more on interpersonal relationships/conflicts as well as individual motivations for the girls as they get eaten left and right would make for a much stronger story and product at this point. I've been following since Amber was first grabbed by the jemlocks and while there was a little bit of "meh" and "?" stuff in vol 1, vol 2 is filled to the brim with it.

As a reader, I don't really find myself caring about the diners, Horchestra, or the world building in general. It just isn't captivating or grabbing at my attention because it doesn't have the time or space to be fleshed out, nor is any attempt to flesh it out really appreciated because we're ultimately here to watch Safi/Rika/Amber etc all meet their grim fates via some vore/hot as hell death. Those are the characters we actually care about. As far as the overhead antagonists the only one I have moderate interest in is Horchestra's helper, and that's strictly out of the dark interest that she will meet her own grim fate in a form of psuedo justice. I think Sono wants a much deeper story with a rich world to play around in but this is ultimately a porn comic. So your story/world building has to be EXTRA strong to retain interest. I'll watch/read porn for the plot if its well done and engaging, but not if its convoluted and confusing. Once it feels confusing/convoluted I am basically just waiting for the next vore scene and skipping the rest.

I know Sono has mentioned in the past the readers will riot if there is too much time between the end of a porn scene and the start of the next one; I think with this issue you've softly acknowledged this isn't the place for a huge world building/grand plot narrative and just a place to have a bunch of girls die in creative sexy ways. You can either stick to your creative guns and do the project for yourself, accepting most of the audience is already lost at this point and just here for the porn material, or start making narrative adjustments to simplify the world/plot so that we can hone in more on the characters themselves. Right now I really don't care at all about the new character's we've introduced besides their capacity to find a horrible but creative way to die. And I'm only here to hold out for Rika/Safi's eventual permanent doom. I'm not here to find out what the hell Horchestra has been prattling on about because she sounds like she is undergoing real time psychosis every time she talks.

Edit: its possible Sono just needs some help ironing out/reworking dialogue and that could make things a lot more cohesive and fluid as far as story telling/world building exposition. I can tell Sono has a VERY cryptic style to writing/exposition which while is sometimes nice, gets old REALLY FAST when its your primary method of communicating ideas to the readers that seem to be vital for understanding the plot as it moves forward. Sometimes a concise simple explanation is just better, even if it feels boring.

This sounds like project death, bluntly. There's no way, and i mean this, no way on fucking earth you can retain the current amount of patrons you have moving to a text format with vastly less images. The market for novelizations of erotica is small as is, in this kind of content it's non-existent. I like the comic a lot, i was a patron for several years. There is no way to spin this as anything besides a major, probably catastrophic reduction in content. Plant food is the primary driver of patron revenue; you should be cutting literally every single thing except for it. Cutting it should be the last resort. Going from multiple pages a month to apparently one will just be a complete disaster and almost certainly financially unviable.

If the quality and quantity bars were set too high that's something you have to fix, but there's no way casual readers are going to keep supporting the project with a 75% reduction in main comic content and I'd wager nearly zero will be content with text only content.

Feedback-wise some of our supporters in the discord have been very helpful, if anything the total amount of feedback has increased, albeit it's coming from a somewhat smaller group. Funding-wise, we're about... 80% of where we were two years ago? 65% of where we were last year, but 2023 was unusually high (second highest year in our entire 8-year run [2019 was the highest]).
