I'm not sure if you've ever read the actual monkey's paw story, but the moral of it is that no wish comes without a heavy price. Since the paw originally comes with 3 wishes, it's likely that Takkun's girlfriend had died shortly before this story started, and that he used his first wish to bring her back, unaware that she would actually be brought back as a half-decomposed zombie.

Assuming he actually used the last wish to make her whole, the paw would probably be a dick about it and fill her ramining parts with that of a completely different human, or, even worse, the parts of some animal, or, even worse, something inanimate (like cement), so that's probably not the best idea.

I'm kind of assuming that whatever he's reading has something to do with making his next wish specific enough to make her completely normal again.
