Trace is a Pokemon ability that comes into effect when said Pokemon first gets into battle and copies the ability of its opponent.

Kinda reminds me of these comics where a Diglett would use moves/abilities (like turning into a wooden stand of a Diglett when using Facade or manifesting an entire arena as activating Arena Trap)
