Basically it is a safe lock that prevents you from using the equipped ship from being used for modernization for another ship (where you sacrifice a ship to increase another ship's stat, which means the ship that was used for the sacrifice will be gone), or dismantling (sacrifice a ship to turn it into materials).

This exists so that people don't lose their high leveled or favorite ships from a misclick (it sometimes happen still if you forget to lock the ship)
