For those that don’t understand what’s going on, it’s a parody-love letter to the sukeban [gangster girl] archetype popular in the Shōwa era, 1926-1989. Particularly the 60s-80s. The art style is also deliberately apeing 70s manga to get the full effect. From what little Japanese I know, practically everything they say is some cliche Shōwa era line.

You really don’t see this stuff in modern manga because it’s like bellbottoms and feathered hair. It’s a fucking *dead* trope. It’s so dead and buried, that even parodies of it have become tired tropes themselves. To really give you an idea, Makoto from Sailor Moon was a parody/deconstruction of the sukeban character, and she’s from 1992.

To illustrate further, the gangster/naughty girl archetype has evolved no less than 4 times since. First as yankee, then kogal, then gyaru, then ganguro. All of which THEMSELVES are tired and ‘oldschool’ tropes. To the point even they’re being deconstructed.
It cannot be illustrated how out of date the sukeban thing is. And I fucking love it.
