Thanks again as always, Lazarus. Good mother-son stories frequently go untranslated or get picked up by bad translators (which is perhaps worse).

That being said, is anyone else bothered when "Okaa-san/Kaa-san" gets translated as "Mom" rather than simply being left as is? I notice a lot of translators do this, yet almost everyone has the decency to leave the likes of "Onii-san" and "Onee-san" (and their variants) alone. Personally, I feel like if it has an honorific attached to it, it should probably be left be (with "Aka-chan" being the only notable exception that comes to mind). I imagine most readers in this case would know what "Okaa-san" means (and if not, it could easily be explained with a side-note), so is their any reason this is predominantly done? Personal preference? Saving space in the word bubbles?

One way or another, I mean no disrespect to the translator -- great respect to the Lazarus team -- and this certainly isn't a personal appeal for the translation to be altered or anything like that. I just wonder if I'm alone in my nitpick.

I'm fairly certain that the fruits are acting like an aphrodisiac and not a hallucinogen. These kinds of storyline usually goes something along the lines of: two people ingest aphrodisiacs and can't stop themselves from having sex even if they don't want to or it's morally wrong but after having sex they realize how great it feels to fuck each other and start doing it willingly.

@Soldier A: You see, I actually agree with you; if a translator were to leave words like "hora" or "suki" untranslated, I would consider it lazy (and legitimately obnoxious). The thing is, "Kaa-san" isn't simply a word, it is a title used to refer to someone (in this case, the speaker's mother) in lieu of a name; as such, I believe it should be treated much like a name or any other proper noun and be left as is.

As I said, things with honorifics attached should generally be left untranslated, as they are usually used to refer to individuals. So, for instance, "Hahaoya" should be translated as "mother" (it's not used to directly refer to someone and an honorific is not attached), but "Kaa-chan" should be left as is rather than translated to something like "mommy." Once more, translators already widely follow this principle with "Onee-"/"Onii-", yet, if they felt the need to, they could translate these things fairly easily, changing, for instance, "Onee-san" to "big sister" or "Nii-chan" to "big bro."

So my question, to anyone who would be kind enough to answer (I'm genuinely interested), would be that if you prefer "Kaa-san" to be translated to "mom," do or would you prefer things like "Nee-san" and "Sempai" be translated to "big sis" and "senior" respectively? If not, why do you think something like "Kaa-san" should be treated differently?

I'd rather leave "kaa-chan", "kaa-san", hahaue", "oniichan", "aniki", "aneki", "aneue", etc... untranslated as some of them don't really have an equivalent in the english vocabulary or in a cultural sense. Calling someone "Big Brother" in English is very strange.

Leaving these terms is, in my opinion, even more appropriate than calling italian noodles pasta and cooked snails Escargot.
