The language genl used isn't as clear as it could be, but it seems that he's saying the other version of this (and some other galleries) had one or two additional unnecessary transformations, probably something like a bmp from a pdf reconverted into jpg instead of just directly ripping the jpgs from the pdf, the addition conversion to different formats adds a slight distortion to the images and bloats the file size around 2 or 3 times what it originally was.

Correct. It's a direct copy of the original material. Previous gallery is screencaps saved as oversized jpegs.

I don't have such patience to do any alternation on the images manually and one by one
