Is there something implicit among translators of different languages that prevents them from leveling the pages? Or is it professional courtesy among the different roles?

@aphral Check again, think you got the source 2nd hand or something. The first page I linked is from your gallery, the 2nd page is the same page from the scanslator's gallery (same one you linked). MUCH cleaner than what you picked up.

Yup i see what you mean, i must have picked mine up from a 2nd hand source. What i had before i decensored it had the same artifacts compared to the ones on ehentai.

I do not belong to any group, nor do i have QC nor people helping me typeset. I don't have people helping me check if the pages i work with are the best quality ones i could get.

I'm on Win 7, and i used PhotoShop CS2 saving with jpg settings at 80(Very High Quality) - as near the size of the original w/o losing too much quality and it increased the original size by around 100+ KB. For those that didn't need editing, i just copied it, the decensorer did not export it as a low quality jpg, i don't see any purpose in making people scream "My eyess, the googles! THEY DO NOTHING!!".

Thanks for answering my questions. The 5 page epilogue that i worked with weren't original Jap raws though - i couldn't find it. Again <insert rant about resources>.

Yes i'm sure. May i know what does the general editing community consider a good result?
What is exactly the benchmark here? Who am i providing decensoring for? The editors, general community or translators into different languages?

If editors, i would need to have the original tank to scan a high quality raw.
If translators, what are their requirements?
For the general public downloading for their personal enjoyment, do they need an acceptable view at 100% or the detail should be perfect even at 400% zoom?

What can i do to balance the demands between people, my time and limited resources? Being a solo decensorer, i can only focus mainly on decensoring. I'll leave it to the editors, scanlators and translators to do their jobs, i have my own. Doing everything is unrealistic for me, which is probably why they have teams - i don't.

Well sorry for that, looks like my QC fal'ed. I wasn't looking at noise around the words when i decide whether its good for decensoring. I look at the story (i read it at 100% zoom, which caused me to miss the artifacts), whether i like it (motivation and why i didn't use raws), the detail around the pussies and dicks (zooming to 400-600 at the dick, the text goes off to the side when you zoom in that close, which is why i missed).

If you guys feel the need to read it in 720 HD *wink*, the cleaner text boxes are in the 2nd link. (And you wouldn't need the decensored version if you're bothered by the noisy text, zoom in 200-300 to see it and all the dicks/pussies would disappear)

And my mouse fal'ed on me halfway through this decensor, so the next one is going to be delayed.

Don't mind me if i sound defensive, its a quirk. Bring on the editing criticism~! Anything is welcome! Bitter medicine is good for improvements! (At least until i get a new mouse)

The noise is jpg artifacts. When this was originally scanlated, the editor exported as a (high-quality) jpg instead of the standard png for greyscale images. The decensorer decensored, then exported as a (low-quality) jpg, which produced the artifacts.

Some languages' translation groups have higher standards than other languages'. I think Chinese scanlation groups probably have the highest standards of any language, due to the ease of translation and (especially) editing. They're also quite organized: there's a greater emphasis on groups and fewer individuals doing both translation and editing, which results in both higher quantity and quality of releases. Compare this to, say, Spanish scanlation. A lot of it is retranslated from English, it's harder to learn how to edit well if you can't read English guides, etc.

Raws generally shouldn't be leveled, though. Or at least they shouldn't be ONLY overleveled. ONLY overleveling will make the scan look alright, but it makes an editor's job harder if they want to clean and/or filter the scans.

When I said "low-quality," I didn't mean the Photoshop sliders. I meant a setting that resulted in visible artifacting. Sliders are meaningless, it's the results that matter.

Even if there are image artifacts, decensored works are always a nice thing to have. what kills it for me is the scenario of this share. Still a nice upload nonetheless.
