I think it's a little more than just weird.... Since when is gargling...Sexy? What about "massaging the nasal cavity and the tongue"? Is that sexy? The narrative also explains to us what is clearly visible, and needs absolutely no words to be spoken. It feels like the author tried to fill up the pages with text as much as possible, rather actually write something sensible....

Re: Solipsist Welcome to the world of Japanese writing. Maybe you've read a shonen manga where one character slices another in half, and then pontificates for a page about how he did so? That's not exclusive to any one genre, it's just an aspect of the Japanese language/culture. For something related, look into the actual purpose of "desu" and other such sentence suffixes.
